I'm so sorry to hear this. I would want to be told right away too. My thoughts are with you both. |
I am very sorry for the loss of your sisters precious little yorkie. iMO, the best way to handle it is to call your sister and tell her , even though she is on vacation. It is important not to wait becaust this was a tragedy. It is going to be even more difficult to wait until she comes back to let her know then to tell her right away. If something happened to my Suzi while i was gone, I would want to know . I would even be more devastated finding out later then as soon as it happened. This was a horrible accident. Be prepared though , your sister may either be in shock, start to scream , swear, cry, or panic. Let her do what she needs to do to let her grief out. This is going to be a extremely hard , and emotional time for her. :( |
I hope you have already told your sister, if not pls do right away. She has to be told now because she needs to be the one to make decisions about the poor little dog now (burial/cremation/etc). It is very tragic. RIP little one. I too, hope your sister will join our group. It really helped me when I lost Sadie to be "among those that understand." |
i am so sorry to hear this..RIP little one. |
I am so sorry to hear this for both you and your sister. It was a horrible "accident" nothing more and could of easily happened while your sister was visiting as it did to you. Please don't beat yourself up over this. I know you are grieving enough as it is. God bless you.:( |
I'm so sorry...I also have a pool and my yorkies at some point have all fallen in. I was right there to get them but they run and play and wrestle, it's just so easy. All of mine swim with us now, I wanted them all to know how to get out. It's hard to understand how she didn't know how to swim. They didn't know how to find the steps but they all swam even as pups. I have a section of my yard fenced off just for them. That way they have a place to go potty and play that is safe away from the pool area. And we have the rest of the yard free from poop so my kids and Grandkids can play. It's really the best way to have it unless you are out there with them at all times. I pray for Jill and you and your sister to find peace with what happened, it was a terrible accident. Accidents happen......... |
OMG I am so very sorry to hear what happened I know it's hard but try not to blame yourself..It was an accident and accidents happen with kids ,dogs or anyone... you obviously love little Jill but these things just happen so fast. I too agree to let your sister know right away she needs to know before she comes home.. |

I totally agree!! No way does this lady need this! She is devastated. Please show her some support. To the OP, I am so sorry for the loss of little Jill. I will keep you and your sister in my prayers. |
(((((hugs to you))))) I also experienced a similar situation. My girlfriend left her little - very old - poodle with me for a couple of days....... go figure within 2 hours that she left, her dog died when he was tied out in my back yard (that he where my friend put him until I got home for work) . Right or wrong.... I did not tell her until she came back, was lots of tears when she came back - but we got through it and we still are best friends. With regard to some negative comments on here ...... ignore him. I am new here and also got his wrath..... I seem to think he is a crotchety old man who only adds his cranky 2 cents in when he wants. I do not see him adding anything positive...... maybe if I dig back in posts far enough I could find something positive. For now - ignore him. |
Oh my gosh, I am so sorry - this is so tragic on so many levels and I'm so sad for both you and your sister. Little dogs are so vulnerable, and I've learned my own lessons about just how vulnerable they really are - and unless you're with them every day, it's hard to "just know" how to protect them sometimes. I too have a pool, and even though we don't allow our dogs outside alone, we still installed a Skamper Ramp, it was $15 on sale: Skamper-Ramp - SKR4 |
Dont blame yourself. Accidents happen and Im sorry for your loss. :heart to R.I.P. Jill :heart to |
:unlove: Oh, my heart breaks for both you and your sister. :cry8: You are in my prayers. :hands: RIP Little Jill :littleang |
I am so so sorry this happened. My heart goes out to you and your sister and family. We got a scamper ramp on our pool, but people should realize that even that is false security -- when we tested Maxwell with it, if you don't point him directly towards it he still would go to the edge and drown. Hugs and kind thoughts go out to you, these sad things just happen. |
How heartbreaking :( I am one of 3 sisters and if this had happened to one of us I know that we would immediately tell each other. Sisters have a very special bond. RIP :littleang |

Just checking in to see if Kathy( OP) posted an update on how it went when she told her sister. They both continue to be in my prayers |
me too any word yet?:( |
I want to add my condolences and support. We have heard of a few yorkies drowning here. I thought it might be because they have so much hair that they have trouble staying afloat, but I would not have thought a dog could drown in a minute. Hopefully this doesn't come off as gruesome, but perhaps later, some comfort can be taken in that her death was quick. Sometimes terrible things happen, and there is nothing you can do. Peace to all of you. |
If it were my dog, I would want to know right away. I am so sorry for your loss. :( |
how is everyone taking the loss? |
Oh I'm so sorry ! My prayers are with you ! |
I just can't imagine your pain. Gosh I am so sorry. Please let your sister know immediately. Nancy is right. Decisions have to be made |
loss of puppy How horrible.... even though you feel really bad its not your fault...and I think that your sister will not hold it against you. I am sure that she will know that you would never have let it happen on purpose. We were dog sitting for my brother he has an english bulldog and we were letting her out to potty and she ran right past us and went right into our pool... straight to the bottom, she didnt even try to swim... I had to jump in and push her to the top and my husband pulled her out. Things happen quickly and and if we hadnt been there when she fell in she would have passed too. I am so sorry this happened to you... give your sister alot of love... and dont be so hard on yourself....your and yours are in my thoughts and prayers. |
I am so sorry about your families loss as well. I think that you should most definitely get a hold of your sister and prepare her for the inevitable. Be prepared for her reaction- she I am sure is going to be feeling lots of emotions! Best wishes to you all, and please send an update! |
i am so sorry for what happened. try not to blame yourself too much. it was clearly an accident! if it were my dog. i would want to know ASAP no matter what. i would be even more upset if i wasn't told ASAP. i agree that the only thing comforting to me would be that it was a very quick death and the dog didn't have to suffer for too long. your sister will be very upset naturally. if it were me, i will be really upset and probably cry, scream, and yell at you.(and maybe say things i don't mean) so hopefully you prepared yourself for that, and don't blame her for her reactions when you tell her what happened. it's really really hard. they are like our babies. hugs to you and your sister. |
I am so so sorry to hear about this. I read your thread this morning and it's haunted me all day. I have no idea what I would do in this kind of situation. You need to expect your sister to scream and yell and maybe say some things she doesn't mean. It's not your fault - accidents happen - but her shock is going to be unimaginable. I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this. I'm going to have you and your sister in my thoughts and prayers. |
This is such a sad and tragic story. I'm so sorry for you and also for your sister's loss. I hope you and your sister can find comfort in the days ahead. Don't be strangers to the site. There are a lot of us on this board that have experienced the pain of losing one of these precious little ones. __________________________________________________ ____________ FYI for all those who thinks dogs automatically swim, I had a golden retriever (a water loving dog) get in my pool last year and sink. We had to pull her out by her collar--she was fine but it was scary none the less. |
My Deepest Sympathies to you and your sister over the tragic loss of little Jill...I hope your bond as Sisters will grow stronger and help you both deal with this loss in the weeks ahead...R.I.P. JILL... :tinyheart:rip::angelyork:tinyheart |

I am just reading this thread. How terrible. I am so sorry you have to wear this burden. It was an accident. I personally wouldn't want to know until I came home. Especially if I were away. I only say this because it would ruin the vacation for everyone who was with me. I would want to go home right away. I do hope when you tell (or told) your sister that she was understanding to it being an accident. My heart goes out to you and your sister! |
