Do your babies sleep with you?? Hubby is desperately wanting Roxy to sleep with us but I have always been told that is a no-no. Do any of you let your baby sleep with you? Do you think it is a bad thing? |
I have let mine sleep with us since they were 4 months old and I dont think it affects how they behave. I have heard the reasons why you shouldnt and dont believe them |
All 5 of them! And we love it... They each have their own spot to sleep and they don't disturb us when we sleep. We have 4 females and 1 male. When they first get in bed, they want to play for a little while, but then the male makes a growling noise and everybody drops in their respective spots and go right to sleep. It's halarious! I told my husband not to get any ideas...:D |
Oh yes, Tatum has slept with us in our bed since day 1 - well, maybe she slept beside the bed the first couple days but that's about all it took to weasle her way up to our bed. Our previous dog (poodle) always slept in our bed too. Never any accidents (although we do have a waterproof mattress cover on our bed just in case). Wouldn't have it any other way. |
We had to buy a king size bed coz my 3 are bed hogs!!!! You will get tons of conflicting opinions on this but as for me and my house, my dogs sleep with us. They are in a pen until they are housebroken (feeling that warm, wet puppy pee on you at 4 am is not fun). I dont think I could sleep now without them and funny enuff, it's always my dh who brings them in when they are ready!! lol And he's always trying to push it sooner! Anyway, gl with all the opinions youll get, but in the end, you have to decide whats right for you and your family. |
oh, I forgot... I don't want them on my comforter, so I fold it down to the end of the bed and put a cover on top of it. That way, I just have to wash my sheets and not have to take my comforter to the dry cleaners. And in the morning, I can just unfold it and my bed is made! |

I would not want her to sleep anywhere else :D In the winter she sleeps in between us under the covers. In the summer she sleeps on top of the covers where ever she is comfortable. I think it is a personal preference. I have read "the reason you should not let them sleep with you is because you are the Alpha dog and you need to establish dominance. If you do let them sleep with you they need to be invited up and only allowed to sleep at the foot of the bed. They should not be allowed to push you out of the way." Take that for what it is worth. My Yorkie is my baby and I treat her as such! :animal36 |
No, ours do not sleep with us...we sleep with them! Or at least that's the way it must seem when you look at the amount of space they have as opposed to the amount of space DH & I get. But we wouldn't have it any other way. :D |
Of course. :) If I wanted a dog that couldn't sleep with me so easily, I would've gotten a Boxer. :) Ellie is a lap dog and she is free to spend as much time on our laps or on our pillows as she wants. :) From the training aspect, I do agree that not all dogs can behave if they are allowed to sleep with their owner but we just overlook it. ;) |
My 95lb pitbull slept with us. It didnt cause any bad behavior. It did take up lots of space though...lol. I have my pen and crate all set up for when my little boy comes home and he will be sleeping in there until he can make it thru the night w/o accidents and then he is more than welcome on my bed :D |
My five let me sleep in their king size bed with them, too! :D They very nicely leave me a few inches of space right along the edge of the mattress. :p |
Yes, yes, yes....:D When I ask my man if he is ready to go night, night both Kingsley and Zoey run to the bedroom door, as soon as I try to open the door they are trying to squeeze in.. Zoey stands on the step and waits, and Kingsley waits in the floor beside her, until we pick them up and put them in. Now Zoey has to sleep with lil man and I miss her sleeping with us.. This is the funny thing. If eddie and I are not sure if the other was ready for bed we would have to spell it out. R-U-R-E-A-D-Y, Well dag um it now they can spell, and take off running. :p Gotta love them babies!!!!:D |
My Gus sleeps with me every night! Usually he likes to curl up in the crook of my legs, but sometimes he just goes down to the end of the bed or right by the window. In any case, he takes up so little space, it's not a problem. |
Rocky sleeps with us and does well. He seems to be my 6:15 alarm clock and starts to shake and yawn (past few days anyway). Sometimes he sleeps through the night all the way. We've just started closing the bedroom door (which is how he gets to the bathroom) but he's been doing well and holding it until the morning. |
How old are most babies before they can hold it through the night? |
1 Attachment(s) We let Kissy sleep with us when she was the only "child". I didn't realize that i wasn't sleeping as well as i needed to as i was always conscious of where she was so she didn't get smooshed. When #2 came along, that was it for me. I got those Pet Gear soft crates and they each had their own. Kissy fussed a little bit as she had slept with us for 5 years. When #3, #4, & #5 arrived, i just kept adding crates. They are all lined up beside my bed now and each has their own little bedroom. They know their own crate and run to get in them each night. they have lots of little blankies in each one where they can build their nests each night. They all get zipped up and go to sleep. In the mornings, DH unzips them and they all run outside to potty. We only allow them on the bed to cuddle and play until it is time for sleep. This works for us and we are getting better sleep now that we don't have to worry about rolling over on any of them. Naps are different as they are allowed up there on those rare occasions and they all have their little spot where they curl up. Here is a picture of their little crate train. Attachment 282127 Here's a picture of the girls in them: :D http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/pic...ictureid=14935 |

Of course she sleeps with me!!!! |
When we got zeke 6 years ago he refused his crate, so the bed was it. Now he feels its his bed and just shares. And sometimes not to well. So when we got Baxter, a crate came home, and that is where he has been sleeping since day one. He is allowed on all the furniture during the day, but nite time, they go out, and I call them in and tell them they get a bed time snack. Baxter runs to his crate, jumps in and waits for his treat. Then he lays down and is good for the night. |
Our Koda sleeps with us every night since he was about 4 months. :) He loves being with us. But really, it's up to you and what works for your family. |

Yep, both our boys sleep with us...they are so cuddly, I love it. :) |
Stormy sleeps in the bed with us, either on my pillow, inbetween us or on hubby's chest :p |
Jackson has slept with me since he was 15 weeks old. I personally do not believe it causes any issues. Jackson is a well behaved dog and pretty obedient (minus a major begging problem!) most of the time so I don't think sleeping in my bed makes him bad. My whole family has always had the dogs in their bed, my parents, my grandparents, my aunts and uncles. It's just how it is. lol |
Ours Sleep with Us Once Roxie and Ryder were both 4 months they have slept in our bed. They behave just fine! |
