Please help! my trixie is fine thank GOD, but my neighbor;s dog is going to die. The vet didn't give them any hope, and my poor neighbor wont stop crying. The dog is a rotwiler. Dont know how to spell that. Any way. we have being giving her gatorade and regular watter. Even if we were told that she will die, at least we can keep trying till the las minute. What worries me the most is that four other dogs had died in my neighborhood. and I am panicking, because trixie, could also get it even dough she is vacinated. So I was told. Anyone has some ideas of how to save this dog? The vet says there is a 50. 50 chance with treatment.

There is a reasonably good chance that any vaccinated dog will not get it. You may want to titer your dog(s) just to be safe though.

If your neighbor wants to save her dog, it needs to be at a vet's office in isolation receiving treatment and don't go anywhere near it or the property or you are just putting your dog(s) in more danger...

You and Your neighbors need to bleach everything. Inside and out. And everyone needs to stay/keep to themselves for at least 6 weeks after the last infected dog pulls thru or passes on. I am currently dealing with this and feel sorry for your neighbor. You need to protect your fur baby, unfortunately you have no way of knowing what is contaminated and need to bleach everything. If it rains you need to re bleach outside. The rain disrupts the under layer where the UV rays have not killed the virus. That is why Parvo is more common in rainy areas and during rainy seasons. There are three types of parvo with each having multiple strands. Even though we vaccinate it doesn't mean they can't get it. Two of the kinds are extremely deadly and cause heart failure almost immediately, but there is no way of knowing which strain the poor things have. Please take my advice and bleach your yard and home. Don't allow your neighbors over and don't go to their homes..

Pedialyte and Pepto Bismol is what saved my dog. I was desperate at the time. I gave him 2 tbs of pedialyte every hour. I would ask the vet for a safe dose for the pepto, or the pharmacist even.

I dont know anything about parvo or anything but I would keep my baby INSIDE. At a dog park here dogs were dying, and I wouldnt take Prince anywhere near the park.. and those who took their dogs there even after they said everything was ok, some of their dogs were sick and some died....
I hope your neighbor's dog survives, but if I were you I'd stay away from the dog and keep your dog inside as well...better safe than sorry.

That is very devastating to have Parvo in your neighborhood. Parvo can travel on people's clothing, or shoes. This is how is gets into the house. I would not be going over to your neighbors home right now. To protect your own dogs. Keep them inside, use pee pads, take your shoes off at the door , use hand washing techniques, and do everything possible to prevent this deadly illness from coming into your home.
Have your Yorkie, and rest of your dogs titer's done. Be extra cautious if you have a puppy .Because a puppy is more prone to this illness, and go downhill fast . I am so sorry .hugs .

OMG'sh!!!! This post freaks me out...I thought if they'd had all their parvo shots, they were home free...I read a post, the other day, about washing their feet, after walks...I've never done that, and didn't think I ever would...But now, I'm beginning to think I might should, but wonder if that would even do any good, if they walked in the virus???

How old is Trixie? Has she had all her shots?

Puppies are most vulnerable to parvo. They get immunities from nursing which interfere with vaccinations if they are started to soon.

In one study of a cross section of different puppies the age at which they were able to respond to a vaccine and develop protection covered a wide period of time. At six weeks of age, 25% of the puppies could be immunized. At 9 weeks of age, 40% of the puppies were able to respond to the vaccine. The number increased to 60% by 16 weeks, and by 18 weeks of age, 95% of the puppies could be immunized.

Parvovirus: Serious Diarrhea in Puppies & Dogs

If Trixie is older, fully vaccinated at the proper age and you take reasonable precautions to keep her away from infected areas, you should be okay.

The dog is still alive. So far, she is holding her food for 4 hours now, but she is still in critical condition. She got better after the pepto, and pedialyte that we have being giving her since yesterday. Thanks for all your concern.
