Someone tried to runover my Ziggy!!! So I come home today and I'm taking my time getting out of my car (I've sprained my knee and I'm in an immobilizer and on crutches). I start to walk towards the house, I saw a golf cart coming so I called Ziggy, but he ignored me and continue to stand in the driveway (about three feet from the road). The golf cart, which was driving in the middle of the road, swerves, then makes a bee-line for the driveway and towards Ziggy. I yelled" You better watch it" when they were about (six feet from the dog,) to let the two seventeen- eighteen year-old girls know that I'm standing 20 feet away form the dog. They ignored me and sped off laughing. Well this scares Ziggy so he runs to me and I prop up on one crutch and carry him to the house. After he's secure I go back out the the car on a mission to talk to those girls. I found the girls. I asked "Are you the girls that came up on the dog in the yard?" Blondie's answer "Yes" Me: What were you going to do to the dog? Blondie: Pet him (I realize she wasn't going to answer me flat out, "I was goign to runover him") Me: You were going to pet someone else's dog, in their yard? Blondie:Yeah Me: I was standing 20 feet from the dog, if you wanted to pet him you could have asked me I would have brought him to you Blondie: (Silence, she turns and is ignoring me) Me::mad: LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHING! IF I EVER CATCH YOU RUNNING UP IN THE YARD TRYING TO RUNOVER OR SCARE MY DOG, THE PLOICE WILL BE CALLED AND I WILL PRESS CHARGES. (at this point she's on her phone trying to call someone- still ignoring me.) Me: Do you understand? DO YOU UNDERSTAND? I better not catch you ever doing that again. Then I drove home. I did call the police to make sure there was a record of someone trying to runover my dog, in case she ever tries to do it again. Then went and turned on the porch light, expected mad parents or the girls to come back to the house, (and I would have dealt with whoever decided to come). And I sat down and waited. Its been two hours now and I don't think anyone is going to come. Was I wrong to do that? I don't usually call people out, but what happens if she tries to do that to our outside cat when we're not home. I shouldn't have yelled, but she had and attitude and she was ignoring me. Was I in the wrong? Should I have let her go without letting her know someone saw her and will fight for her pets? |
Heck no!! I probably would have swung my crutch at her!!! What a b*&$%!!! And good for you for standing up for your babies!! |

Oh, sorry this happened to your little one. How ignorant of them. I probably would have reacted the same way if not worse. I glad he is ok! |
No, you were not wrong. I don't know what is wrong with people these days and young ppl are the worst. And, girls are no better than boys. I shutter to think what their lives will be like when they are adult, cronologically speaking. If we don't stand up for ourselves and our pets, children, property etc., we will be run over. I used to never call ppl out, I hate confrontation, but these days you almost have to or it just gets worse. Then, civilized ppl dread what will happen next. Just like you waiting to see if someone showed up. It's a dificult balancing act to know when to reproach someone and when to leave the crazies alone. Thankfully, you both are alright. I'm sorry this happened to you, but I think you did the right thing. |

I think you did right by holding these girls accountable. I have to agree, I probably would have been tempted to throw my crutch at them. :D |
Thank you!!!! Everyone I've talked to in my family said that I shouldn't have done it. So I've been feeling bad for Blondie, because I yelled at her like no one has ever yelled at her in her life. I've read a couple of stories here where something similar has happened and owners have had to stick up for their pets. Have any of you had to go through similar things? |
Look at that baby, who would ever want to hurt him? Kids/teens can be so cruel. Good thing you were there who knows what would have happened. And you were absolutely in calling them out on their bad behavior, I would have went a step further and knocked on their parents door and let them know about their little witches! |

I will be asking neighbors if they know though. ;) |
You go girl! I would have done the same thing. People are nuts and some are sickos! Did you hear about the Cat Serial Killer in Miami. I swear if anyone came on my property and hurt, or killed my animal, they would meet a bullet. :p I dont have kids, my animals are me and my hubbys babies. I know these are kids and its different than being a animal killer, but it is good you called them out on it. I mean, she very well could have killed him! If that was my child, she would be SOOOOO punished! |
I cannot believe that she honestly swerved to TRY and hit your baby!! I don't think I would have handled it as gracefully as you :p Good for you for standing up for Ziggy! :D |
You absolutely did the right thing. If her intentions were good, she would have apologized to you and that would have been that. |
What in the world had she done if your baby had not come when you called?? Idiot! I personally would have lost it. And I HATE confrontation!! It is very wise to contact the police for a record of her act of stupidity. |

I would have done the same as you. Don't feel bad. Plus points for the heads up to the cops already too. Better safe than sorry when it comes to our babies. |
I don't think the parents will show up. I am sure she knows she would get in trouble if they knew the truth of what she had done. At least I hope she would have gotten in trouble, you never know these days. She probably thought she would be "funny" acting like she was going to hit your dog and then swerve at the last minute. Very NOT funny! But what if she had lost control and really hit your dog?! Kids don't think it all the way through! They need to be called down when they cross a line and she did most definately cross the line! I might have taken it a step further and told her parents too. But she probably would not tell you who they were and it would be hard to track them down since you are on crutches. But you could ask around. Shame on those girls and good on you for standing up to them! |
I'm with you, and I'm going to ask around to find her parents. We've lived out here for 10 years and I can honestly say I don't recognize her. Either she's moved in recently or she doesn't go out much. I will definitely keep everyone posted on any Blondie sightings near the house. I hate hearing that this sort of thing happens all the time. Do you think talking to her even did any good? Is she going to think about the woman calling her out on her behavior and shudder with embarrassment that she was so stupid? Is she going to try to avoid my house? Does she care? |
I absolutley think you did the right thing. My husband is always telling me I need to learn to stand up for my self but I also hate confortations. I would be afraid of them coming back and doing something later but there comes a time you have to take a stand and I commend you for doing that for your baby. I have 2 friends that are school teachers and they tell things that the kids do that are mind boggleing. The kids now days have no scrupples what so ever. One of my friends just had one of her kids throw a cell phone at her in class and they are not allowed to do anything to them. Ugh!!! It just makes you furious. I am so glad your baby wasn't hurt. They could have killed him so easy. Little morons. |

I would have effed little blondie up! I have a temper though , you did a good job though in sticking up for your furbaby!:thumbup::thumbup: |
 Stupid girls . I am glad you went after them. They are old enough to know better. I think handeled it great. I would of lost it on them! |
As far as her actually listening to you.... I always think of stuff like this: Remember the movie "Fried Green Tomatoes" when Kathy Bates rams her car into that younger girls' car over and over because she stole the parking spot from Kathy and then girl smart-mouths something and then Kathy tells her "I'm older and I've got better insurance!" Sometimes them young en's need to be put in their place! |

U weren't wrong at all. It is actually very common that people try to run over small dogs and cats on purpose. Someone ran over and killed my boyfriend's mom's poodle on purpose with his truck. If I were you I wouldn't have even bothered talking with the children, I would have talked to the parents, and then they would know how serious you were. I hate stupid people like that. |
