| Was the visitor's pass for the car or for you & your friend? I know some posts require a pass for the car & some don't. I have a sticker on my car for Fort Monmouth, but if I use another car, like a rental, I need to get a vehicle pass.

Donating YT 1000 Club Member | Probably someone new who was confused to what is and isn't ok. Or they upped security that day for some reason. I hope you guys had a good time in spite of that.

| I'm in Louisville. I haven't been there in years myself. I use to have a friend whose husband was stationed there. I also dated a Captain whom was once stationed there. I never had problems when I was with either of them. I'm sure things are stricker now there than back in the 1980's~! |

| We are stationed at Moody and things at the gate change daily here. We do not need a car pass any longer but sometimes they will only check the driver ID and others they will check the whole car and ALWAYS do we have to get a visitor pass for a non-miltary visitor if they ask for the ID.

| They may have neglected to make your husband get a visitor pass for your daughter's car if it had no decal. I am retired military, and if I use someone else's car or take a new car on base for the first time, I know I have to get a visitor's pass or get a new decal for new car. It used to be only the decal was checked and then the cars were waved through. Now ID's also have to be checked. Some bases (it depends on what is on the base) will only do ID checks when a sign is posted. Others must do it at all times. If it is a base that is going to no vehicle decal required (I did not know some were doing this -- hasn't got here yet), then he may not have been required to get one because he is the retired member. Since neither you or the car's owner were military, a visitor's pass was still required. There are different rules for different bases -- again depending on what might be on the base and its size. They also have different levels of security to be observed. If some threat has upped the threat level, they will go from checking just the driver's ID to checking everyone. Another threat level will require every so many vehicles to be completely searched. It is a random number so no one knows ahead of time. If they go to searching every 3-4 vehicles on a large base, it can really hold things up! Some of the threats may be real and some may be a drill. Still, it is important and worth a little inconvenience to ensure safety. Not just the safety of the base, but yours as well as a visitor. Just be glad that we have precautions in place. Our bases contain valuable personnel, information, weapons, defense measures, etc.... they have to be protected. I do not understand why anyone (especially retired military) would be upset that security measures are in place. This is a different world now. Remember the purpose of the base -- it is nice that we retirees still get to go shop there and use some of the other services, but the main purpose is still national defense. BTW -- there is an off topic forum for these sorts of posts. Sometimes it takes a while to learn all of the different forums. Separate forums makes it nice for organization, finding posts later, and keeping off-topic out of the main forum.
