| Samson doesn't really like being petted Samson is 6.5 months old (not yet neutered) and really doesn't seem to like being petted. He is very energetic so he is always on the move so I kind of understand him not wanting to stand still to be pet when he's wide awake, but even when he's tired and laying down if I start petting him he'll usually move away after a minute or two. Is anyone elses puppy like this??? He does love to give kisses but I wish I could cuddle with him more. Do you think he'll change once he's neutered or when he gets a little older?? |

| My Millie is the same way. I find she wants to be on my lap and she will sit and play with toys or chew greenies or bones in my lap, but she really could care less about being petted. If she is just laying in my lap and doing nothing, if I start to pet her, she will start to fidget. |

| Benji loves to be petted.. he will always stick his head under our hands. But.. Chloe will jump and sit on my lap, and sometimes she'll let me pet her, but most of the time she will get up and move if I do.

| Gus is the same way. He is very affectionate...lots of kisses and playing...but doesn't like to be pet that much. Sometimes he will bump my hand with his head to tell me he wants to be pet but that is rare. If he is asleep on my lap and I pet him, he gets up and leaves. He reminds me of a cat at times.

| Trixie is just now (6 months), starting to like being petted. She'll jump up on my leg and stretch and expects me to scratch and pet her back. But, she really doesn't let anybody else pet her. In puppy class when we do the 'meet a stranger' game, she'll get all excited to meet a new person. But when the person is trying to pet her she walks away. |

| Rowdy will let me pet him, but he will move away in a short while if I just pet him. But what he really likes is for me to scratch his back - he will sit very still for a long time if I scratch his back. I bend my fingers and run my nails (very short) down from his neck to his tail over and over again. He just loves it. |

| Jack wil be 11 months old next week, and we had him neutered last month. He has never liked to be petted and still doesn't. He will lay and let you rub his tummy and lightly pet him when he is very sleepy, but normally if we reach for him he will back off or run away. He is with me all the time, even at work, so we have lots of time together, I have never crated him, and he has the run of the house. We have been very lucky with him not being "too" destructive. I wish he would stand still to be petted or just want to sit on my lap, but I guess I just have to be grateful that I have a healthy, lively, funny, adorable pup.

| Snoodles is the same way. When I am on the computer she wants me to hold her and love her. When she is on our laps in the evening, she will let you rub her back---not her legs or tummy! When she wants to nap or rest, it is down bt my legs or between my legs----if you pet her----off she goes to the other person. I am glad this came up, as I was wondering if it was because at the breeders she was in a kennel by herself. Pat |

That's like Chewy. Exited, happy, fun, but doesn't like to be pet. I'm trying to break him of that, since I think it's another dominance thing. He doesn't like to be pet because he is the alpha dog. Etc... So now when I give him treats for good behavior, I pet him on the head at the same time. I'm hoping this will make good associations for being pet. | |

| Samson wasn't in a kennel by himself or anything at the breeder so that may not have anything to do with it. From the looks of these other posts I guess some puppies are just like that. |

| I look at puppies (I have two) like little toddlers (the people kind ). Everything is brand new and they get distracted easily and are so curious....don't want to be held much cause there is so many other things to look at and explore. My older yorkies love to be petted, especially my four year old

| My Piper is 6.5 Months old too (born March 10) and he never sits still long enough to be petted too much. He's ALWAYS on the move, playing with his adopted siblings. Even when he was younger though he would move away if I petted him too much. He liked to snuggle up against me but if I started to pet him he'd move away. Now he'll want up on me for a behind-the-ear scratch (which he LOVES) and then off he goes.

| This is new one for me...I wish I had more hands to keep up with all the required daily petting. I don't have an answer for this except, keep trying. |
