| I loved my little yorkie Olivia. After she died, I did some research and came up with a couple of breeds that appealed to me if I couldn't find another yorkie - Maltese was one of those breeds, and then Gracie (Maltese) just kind of dropped in my lap! Well...not exactly dropped in my lap, but close! As others said, I love the white coat but do not like the tear stains...but most of all I like the Maltese personality just as well as a yorkie.

| Missing Yoshi Everyday! Donating Member | Maltese has a big part of my heart...really i think I like the more in personality than a yorkie...they are a lot calmer and not as dependent on me as my yorkie....

![]() i thought maltese are more dependent and affectionate, not as independent as yorkies? i am sure every dog's different. but the only two maltese that i know are more clingy. (which i like, LOL) milu is only affectionate on her own terms. | |

| Chelsea is a Yorkie and DaisiMae is a Maltese with black eye pigment, she does not have red tearstains, if deciding to get a Maltese make sure of the pigment, you want black not pink. In order not to have the stains, just clean eyes everyday just like the Yorkies. I comb their faces daily to prevent staining for both dogs. Check out Maltesetalk, you will get great info there too.

| I had a hard time deciding on whether or not to get a Maltese or a Yorkie before my first Yorkie. But once I had a Yorkie, there was never a question -- I'll always have Yorkies! But.... a Maltese too, now that might be a different story! I was just commenting on a Maltese in another thread -- it was tempting me.

| ![]() I'm obsessed with Maltese. I really want one LOL. I have a Maltipoo .. she came out looking like a purebred poodle except her hair is more fluffy than curly. I love her sooooooooooooo much! |

| I love Yorkies--there was never a doubt that our first dog (Ella) was going to be a Yorkie. But when it came time to add a second dog, we ended up getting a Maltese (Jack) instead of a second Yorkie, and it has been great. I think I prefer the Yorkie look, but I love how soft Jack is. Ella is a mama's girl, but Jack loves everyone. He does have tearstains, but they are fading now that he's almost done teething. We give him some plain yogurt, which is supposed to help naturally clear up the tears.

| I love both breeds. I have always had Yorkies, but a few years ago, I offered to groom a tiny female Rescue Maltese for a lady that could not afford a groomer. I had her for a full day every week for a year, befoe she sadly, passed away. I fell in love with the breed. Sheila |

| My Chloe is a morkie and she is THE BEST dog ever... of course I'm her mom so you know i'm kind of partial to her... she is a little ball of fluff and she has just the right balance of playful and calm, she can run around and chase ollie and play but when I take her with me anywhere she is calm and well behaved. |
