Yorkie or Silky terrier?

I was wondering if my Fifi is a Silky Terrier and not a Yorkie?? Her ears look kinda weird LOL!!!

She definitely looks like a yorkie to me. Some yorkies just have bigger ears. If you trimmed the hair on the top third of her ears they would look smaller. I think she is adorable.

Thank you!!! She's a sweetheart Fifi is almost six months old and she's getting her first haircut next week saturday!!! I'm definitely gonna tell them to trim the hair on her ears !!! I just love yorkietalk

i love the big ears, i keep my yorkies hair really long on his ears and they still stand up, he look like he could fly away

Your Fifi is a Yorkie . I have one that have long ears , long muzzle , long legs and no tail.

I'm hoping that they can help me with putting the bows in her hair i'm not too sure how to do it!!! Also I've been looking at pictures of other yorkies on Yorkietalk to decide how I should cut her hair

She is an adorable(YORKIE). Just beautiful. A lot of yorkies have big ears, doesn't mean they're not yorkies.
I used k y jelly on my dogs bangs until they get long enough to pull up, this keeps it out of their eyes. shh stop laughing, it really does work.

LOL I knew I heard laughing from you. I have some that I use, heck, if I didn't use it for the dogs hair, it would be just sit in there and get moldy.

Youe little one is a cute little yorkie When she goes and gets her hair cut , and her ears are trimmed , that is all she needs. To me, they don't look funny, especially if she hasn't had a cut before. I think it's great she can hold her ears up ! my Suzi couldn't until her ear hair was shaved.

I do have a question though About Silky vrs Yorkie's I thought a Silky did have the long muzzle? ANd is larger then the yorkie breed? Am i mistaken? How does one tell these 2 a part? Should i start a new thread? Just curious? In tis lady's picture her little Yorkie was small, though, therefore, to me still fit the profile as a yorkie, with the petite features, and color markings>

Attached is a picture of a champion silky terrier. They generally are bigger than a yorkie and their head is shaped different. I have seen many yorkies that do resemble the silky and I have seen a few silkies that resemble yorkies. It just depends on how well they are bred.

The thing you have to remember, is they used to breed the yorkies much bigger, and there are still throw backs, like mine. Her parents were 4 lbs, mine ended up being 14 lbs.

From what I understand (someone correct me if I'm wrong) Yorkies are originally from the UK (yorkshire), and silkies from Australia. Back then they would send the felons/prisoners to Australia and maybe they took their dogs with them? Since yorkies used to be owned by the lower class and for hunting rats. Once they took them to Australia they bred them to be larger perhaps there are larger rats down under???

But yes generally silkies are larger (more than 7 lbs). I did some research when we got Uni, and I looked at yorkies and silkies and they looked almost the same, except size.
