| So many dog foods, So many opinions I have currently, and will continue to feed Yoda his prefered choice of Royal Canin...I have been doing some thinking of switching to Innova EVO so I contacted them... I sort of feel that this is too much protein, and fat for Yoda...then again to each his own opinion. thought i would share this; this is the response I received from them: Quote:

| Thank you for posting the Innova response. I bought a small bag of Innova, even though I thought it might be too much protein and fat. I started adding a little bit to Rowdy's food, and he promptly got diarrhea, so I stopped. I'm not sure it had anything to do with the Innova, because he sorta has a sensitive digestive track - but I think I have decided to not feed it to him. He does not like larger kibbles, so I think I will switch him to Royal Canin for Yorkies (if he likes it) when I take him off puppy food because it has very small kibbles. Does anyone have any recommendation as to when to switch to adult food? He is almost 7 months old and weights 4 lbs. 4 ozs. The vet seems to think he is probably not going to grow much more, if any. Thansk! |

| I don't think that Innova is for every dog, but I do know that it is great for small breeds that aren't overweight, and great for puppies. high caloric intake is great for growing puppies, and EVO is wonderful for them. the evo is fine, it's all highly digestible protein, unlike poor quality foods, and the big advantage is that it is grain free. dogs evolved as carnivorous animals and their digestive tract is designed to utilize primarily meat and fat, not carbohydrates. another misconception that is still floating around is that a food with a high protein content causes kidney damage. this goes back to research that has been declared as outdated quite some time ago. as long as quality protein is used (which is easily digestible), there is no problem, things are different if a dog already suffers from liver disease, and a specialized diet may be necessary, but for that i'd have the dog thoroughly checked by a vet. |
