i don't know very much about dogs or breeding. i am still learning about everything because milu is my first dog. but what i do know is that i sense a lot of tension and politics going on between breeders because of different breeding practice.

i know a lot of breeders say no breeding dogs under 5 lbs. while i understand why they would say that (i don't understand 100% since like i said, i don't know that much) i do feel that it is a GENERAL rule of thumb and does not apply to all dogs.

there IS a demand for small dogs. and if there are breeders who are educated and have a lot of experience in safely breeding small dogs, i don't think it's a bad thing. (it's a good thing)

Who can blame her? i don't uphold her breeding practices but every time she comes on here, she gets jumped on. someone made a comment on the other thread that it seems a lot of breeders on here agree with what she does. That's not it at all. it's the fact that she is mistreated every time she gets on here. some people are like hound dogs they hunt her down from thread to thread to be rude to her. And yes, regardless of what people on here claim, there is a huge demand for super tiny dogs.

The big demand for small dogs also fuels the puppy mills and it doesnt make them right either JMHO.

no, it doesn't make it right. but i don't see the OP as a puppy mill breeder. she works with a mentor that has 50 years of experience breeding dogs. i much rather have this breeder breed small yorkies safely than just average back yard breeders breeding their small dogs. (or any dogs at all)

it's all about knowing what you are doing i think.

I have never and never would call the OP a puppy miller. I have never been to her home or seen her puppies in person. I just happen to disagree with the practice of breeding for tinies because I feel it is not in the best interest of the little girls having them or the betterment of the breed. I haven't said anything to be attacking anyone. Just trying to understand the way things are on YT. I have said before it can be very confusing to new people coming here. I have read probably 90% of the recent threads since joining hoping to become more informed about the breed I chose to love and I think that is why most of us who are not breeders come to YT.

i actually hope that there were more breeders participating in this forum. because i think it's very interesting and would like to learn and see what they have to say about yorkies. i don't plan on being a breeder. it's not my interest. i also just love talking about yorkies with people here.
i know it's hard when you talk about breeding the tiny dogs. because a lot of people breed for the wrong reasons and put their tiny dog's life in danger.
but the thing is, a lot of times those people who just want to make some money off of their dogs by breeding them will not listen to the breeders advice. since they don't know much, they don't even know all the things that could happen when they try to breed their small dogs... basically what i am trying to say is that they are too uneducated/ignorant on the subject to be scared about breeding their tiny dogs.

i learned a lot after joining this forum.

I have a question. I know the top weight is 7lbs, but is their a number for how small a yorkie can be to show?
I guess I like a little bigger. I'm afraid the smaller they get the more problems that will become of it.

there is no limit on the smaller end. but i think it mentioned that 4lbs is the preferred limit on the small end.

i didn't know about the size that they could be shown either, then nancy told me that usually the whole purpose of showing your dog is to breed them, so if you are breeding them, studier is better.

and i also read someone else said that the judge won't really pay any attention to you if you bring in a dog smaller than 3 lbs. (maybe even 4lbs?)
