not ending love Donating Member | about cheap yorkies, pls read Hello everyone, I have a dilema going on in my mind, well this is what happened. I got my boy Perrito and I was really happy with him, just him, but then my boyfriend got me Jasmin, I did not want another dog, but how you going to say no to that face???? later as I was already in love with them, I did not want to spay them because of the risk of the surgery, well to make the story short Jasmin got pregnat and now I have 5 pups. At first we decide to sell them for like $800 or something like that, but then I decide that I wanted to find a GOOD home for the babys, so I place an ad on craigslist telling people that I have the puppies and we could work something out for them to go a good home, by this I meant to let the future family to decide about dock their tails and choose a vet and make the adoption fee afordable, maybe $300 TOPS. Do you know what happened??? my ad got flagged twice and people start e mailing me asking me for a free puppy because they could not affort $300 and stuff like that and then getting mad at me for not giving them away the way they wanted . That made me think.....I paid almost $2000 for Perrito and Jasmin was over $1000 (I never goint to regret that money it was WELL spended), then every single time they need a vet check from a shot to ANYTHING else like vomiting or shivering, I always took them for a check out and paid whatever the bill was (I have all the recipes) and I'm not a rich person at all, I just love them, they are my children, so how can people ask for a FREE pure breed expensive dog for free when their excuse is they dont have the money to pay a fee?? what is going to happen to that dog if something go wrong and they need medical assistance??? that made me also mad and now I'm not giving this puppies away for cheap and forget about free, but there's something bother me inside, like I'm doing something wrong, I wish I have a big house so I can keep them all.........pls don't jugde me I just need to hear some opinons..........thank you all for lisening, good bless. (and I spaying jasmin nex month, wish us good luck) |

| People can be absolutely ridiculous - expecting something for free! While I do think over $1000 for a dog can be a bit much, $300 is a GREAT price, especially since you are not an experienced breeder and probably didn't do much testing, etc. I think that's a perfect price in your situation and actually very cheap for a Yorkie. The fact that someone wants a yorkie or any dog for free is insane. ' By the way, tails can only be docked VERY early on or else it would be extremely painful. I think they do it when the pup is between 2-4 days old or something but I'm not a breeder, could be wrong on the age. So, if they're past that, that options already gone. I have a full-tailed Yorkie and I love it.

not ending love Donating Member | Thank you very much for your answer, I did dock the tails when they were almost 2 weeks, i did not want to, but you never know what is going to happen in the future so i think I save that pain for them. again thanks for your words. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I hope you will consider giving the pups over to a rescue, they have the resources to find good homes, for them and make sure they are neutered so that your young pups don't go into the hands of a poor breeder. You could be condemning these dogs to an inhumane and cruel existence if you are not extremely careful where you place them. Just making someone promise to get them spayed isn't enough. Some people work full time just reading the ads and get cheap puppy's for resale, you would have no control where the dogs would be going. Remember, these people will seem like the nicest people ever over the phone, but this is how they make their living. Since you never purchased your dogs as breeders, or to make money, why not keep it that way, and give the puppies up. There are several people on Yorkietalk that run legitimate rescues, and the people here can point you in the right direction. Pregnancy carries just as much risk as neutering, even more so, so please get these dogs neutered, it's practically impossible to stop unwanted pregnancies if you don't. A rescue might even be able to help you find a way to neuter your own dogs. You have no idea if the dogs you own have genetic illness that could be passed to their offspring, since I'm assuming you never had them tested for this. Many genetic illnesses don't even show up till the age of 3-7 and require expensive surgery to correct. I'm so glad you have decided to give this more thought, and you are right you don't want to sell your dogs to people who can't afford to pay more, you want to sell them to people that only want a pet, and can afford medical treatment and other necessities. Best of luck with your decision, I know this is painful for you, but with the economy the way it is, people seem more interested in making money off of dogs, rather than spending money on them, so be very careful where you place them.

| I think you are going about it the right way, but I do not know if Craigslist is the best source to post on for all the reasons that you have stated above. I love Craigslist and found Tater that way (very luckily) but I am amazed at how many stupid people are on there Good luck with your pups. Have you posted your litter here on YT? |

edited to add: puppies tails should be docked shortly after birth...NOT after they are purchased...I don't think you would find a vet to do that at that age.

| List the pups on here (Yorkietalk) as well! I'm sure you'll have people interested. Craigslist probably isn't the best place. I agree with Nancy about the rescues as well. And definitely... SPAY/NEUTER!

I finally found someone, but on sfgate.com. I purchased our new family addition, baby boy Mojo, for $600 — which I consider to be very cheap when yorkies are concerned. The pup came with 1st shot, de-warmed, CKC registered, and his tail was already docked. Mojo is 10 weeks old. I also saw the parents, and both of them are gorgeous. Good luck with the puppies!

| Ok.. I don't want to be negative nancy but I do hope that you will reconsider getting your two Yorkies fixed. In the fear of something going wrong with the surgeries, now you have to worry about something going wrong with 5 new lives by placing them in safe homes. If you do not plan on breeding please, please, please get them fixed so that this doesn't happen again... believe me, you little man already has that taste in his mouth.. he will go for it again only the next time he will be quicker at it.

| I would love one of your babies. I am looking for a little girl. I wish I was closer, I am in western NY. My hubby won't let me spend a lot. He is worried about his job and the economy. What you are asking I can afford! |

| my opinion. I think that those people are just taking advantage of you my dear. I think that if they shall have to get a dog-they should be responsible& know that it is gonna have to cost them. They should be knowing how much it costs to own a pet, groom, spend time, and everything else. It takes a lot of effort & it is like having a child. If you cant afford a dog for at least $200 which is totally reasonable (Heck I would take it!) then you cant care for the dog! Those people are ignorant & rip offs! Don't believe them. Craigslist will always flag your posting cause they wont allow free dogs & abuse. I think you're better off posting local ads. It's too bad that I live so far away in Minnesota, otherwise I'd pay a small fee for one of your girls. I would love to have one with my family & my nieces would love spending time with them. Anyhow, let me know what happened thereafter. Nalee |
