Rachel ~ You have the most beautiful babies, I believe I've told you that before. I agree with your reasoning also. If I found a Morkie that I fell absolutely in LOVE with I would have to find a way to have them regardless of being "mixed" but that's not an option for me since I can't even find any in my area. I'm just saying that depite the "love" factor, and if you just look at the wide scheme of things, people are tending to ask a lot more for the "mixed" breeds than one would think they should. I guess as with anything else in this world it's all a matter of supply and demand. If people are wanting them and are willing to pay the prices then the breeders are surely going to get what they can for the pups, regardless of their mixed status.

Anytime your lap gets tired and Stormy wants to still cuddle you can send him my way!!

I have nothing against mixed breeds. I have two, but it completely bewilders me that people are willing to pay SO much for a mixed breed. My neighbor paid 450/ea for her two yorki-poo's.

This is NOT directed at anyone in particular. I just had to vent!

I paid $475 for my Yorkie-poo and I think she was reasonalby cheap and cheaper than a yorkie. Also are said to have lived longer and healthier when its mixed. I looked in shelters and stuff first and couldn't find any yorkie-poos only bigger breed dogs which isn't what I wanted. So i could see somebody paying this "much" for this type of dog...only b/c it's sortve rare depending on where you live.

It really is a gamble..you dont really know how big your dog will get, what their personality will be like..you can only take both characteristics from both breeds and hope theyre accurate. I have a yorkie-poo and I had read up on her personality traits, how big she'd get, the pros and cons...and I guess really the only thing I wasnt expecting...is that she is EXTREMLY hyper and stubborn at times which is a trait of a poodle. It just all depends on the breeds your mixing and the mom and dad.

I agree with you. I wouldn't pay $1,000 (I paid $475) for a mixed breed either and I dont get why they are calling them "Designer Dogs"...Theyre just as adorable but it's insane what they charge.

Thanks for all of your input! I enjoy hearing so many different perspectives.
I definitely would not be purchasing a porkie mentally thinking it is a "Designer Mixed Breed" - instead that it will be a mix of characteristics - physically, intellectually, and tempormently (is that a word? ) of two great breeds - a yorkie and pom.
At this point, I am leaning more towards a purebread yorkie, but have sent a list of questions to the porkie's breeder to learn more...just in case.

HI! I do have a "Porkie" and his name is Oreo he's 9 months old now..

I do know that all people are different and will use their money and spend it in different ways, before I got Oreo, I did go to a shelter and they didn't have any small dogs at the time, they had only big dogs, and my mom wasn't going to allow me to have any big dogs in her home with my neice.
