Let's be honest/Are Yorkies a challenge?

While I can't talk much because I've only had Delilah for a week, so far I feel very lucky. She is super at housebreaking. She's only had a couple accidents. That was the main thing I was worried about because I've read so much about Yorkies being difficult to housebreak. So far, so good.

She is definitely sassy and Great Dane in a two-pound body. She bosses Leo around and sasses at him a lot. It makes me laugh though because he puts up with it.

I love her to death and even though I'm in the roughest phase right now (baby phase, housebreaking, chewing, etc.) I wouldn't change it for anything. She has my heart.

Well, Marcel is a pile of goo - just a pile of goo covered in fur. If you put him on his back so you can rub his tummy, it's "okay Mama!" - if you take his bone away, "okay Mama!" - if you clip his claws "okay Mama" - if you need to lock him in a certain area for a bit "okay Mama!". He is seriously the most trusting and loving and innocent dog I've ever met - just relaxed and easy-breezy. He is sort of an eternal puppy. And, he's the consummate little brother, and doesn't mind that role one bit.

But our Wylie thinks he carries the world on his shoulders. He hates barriers - he chewed through a baby-gate when he was 10 mths old ! He hates closed doors and/or not having access to everyone in the house at all times. Trying to clip his claws is like trying to restrain a gorilla. He has separation issues, and shakes whenever we leave. He does *not* like you to take his bone away - he fights giving it up. He is very sensitive and aware. When he used to eat kibble, he would want his kibble "fluffed" every night around 9pm (just a "hand-fluff" to his kibble), before he'd eat it. He has certain little habits that just appear, go on for months or even years, and then he has a new one. Like right now, he is having a love affair with my socks - he brings them up to the bed every night, carrying them ever-so-gently - and places them softly, and then just lays with them. This habit came out of nowhere, and will end the same way. That's just him.

We love both our boys' personalities bc they are so unique and funny...but yeah, they can be some work too.

I will be honest and say Pixie is a total challenge...and its all my own fault! I have created a monster!
She has been babied and spoilt and got her own way a bit too much...although I DO tell her off, I can't stay mad with her for very long when this cute little button sits down in front of me and looks up at me as if to say: 'I'm sorry mummy! do you still love me'? and then when i bend down to talk to her she will cover my face in little kisses.
I can't eat anything without her whining and demanding she has her share.
I can't sit on the sofa without her demanding to be lifted up to sit with me.
I can't sit in front of my computer for too long without her demanding to be entertained.
I can't leave her unattended in the garden for very long without her eating something she shouldn't, chasing/rolling on Bees and wasps, digging holes, yapping at the neighbours and every passer-by.
Every walk with her is always eventful with her charging along on the end of her leash strutting her stuff like she owns the place and picking an argument with almost every dog she meets regardless of size...and to even get her out on that walk usually involves me chasing her round the house with her harness in one hand.
How can one tiny 3lb yorkie be so much trouble?
yup....she's a handful alright....but i wouldn't have it any other way...I just adore her!

That's the word Ann. Unique. Yorkies are very unique to other breeds
and even unique to other Yorkies. Each one seems so different yet
alike in their personalities. I never expected I would face so many
challenges owning a Yorkie. I am very happy Bud turned out well
trained and healthy in the end. I have to say though I can fully
understand how some people feel overwhelmped with their pet because they don't know how to deal with their problems. I see, after reading, some
had no issues at all. Maybe it's his size I don't know. Buddy seemed
to have them all but overcame them all as well. It was challenging
raising this pup but in the end it was so well worth it.

Sam is the best yorkie, he is 5years old,laid back, and never barks. Now Lola is another story but she is a puppy. She keeps us on our toes...and I love it.

i know just what you mean, my current two constantly keep me on my toes, alfie has made it his personal mission to destroy every soft toy he can get his teeth into. after 20 years i find im still caught out by they're intelligence and determination.

always in my thoughts, Bo, Myshkha,Angel,Poppy,Hope Pippa[lost at only 2years] and Chloe.

Thor is like that with plucking the hair out of his ears. He doesn't care if I stick a q-tip in, and the plucking doesn't seem to hurt him, but he hates it with all his little heart. I cannot believe how much a 4 lb dog can struggle! I try to do one quick pull to get a few hairs every night, but somehow he knows if I'm touching his ears just to touch them, clean them, or pluck them.

LOL. Isn't it *shocking* just how strong a small dog can be? I mean, me and my hubby, together, can sometimes barely restrain him to do his claws. We used to wrap him in a towel, with just his arms sticking out, trying to cut those dang claws. He's now progressed a bit, but it's so stressful, I almost feel like I should do a shot of tequila before every claw event.
