| What type of crate? Hello everyone! I am new to the forum and this Saturday will be a Yorkie mom for the first time..YAY!! He's 13 wks (still no name) and just the cutiest little thing. I have a million questions..but the one I really need answered first is what type of crate should I get for him...wire..plastic or the soft crates (the kind that reminds me of a tent with mesh and zippers). I've read mix reviews about all three and I'm just very confused. Thank you!! |

| Congratulations on your new puppy! Can't wait until you get her so you can post pictures!! When it comes to crates, I guess the best advice I can give is letting the dog chose. I know it sounds weird, but we tried the closed in crates that have the metal doors and Gizmo hated it. So, we ended up getting him a metal cage and we put a blanket over it and his night time blanket in it and he absolutely loves it. Where do you plan on putting the crate?

2+2=4 X the Love ♥ Donating Member | Congrats on the new addition to the family! I prefer a wire cage. The best type to get would be one with an adjustable interior wall for training proposes. | Congratulations!! What an exciting time for you. Here are a couple of photos of Sophie's crate (doggie den ) that worked well for her as a puppy and even now is great for travel. It has mahogany corners so it looks good in the living room. It's larger than it looks in the photos. In the 2nd photo it is decorated for Christmas and shows her toy box sitting on top.

| Thank you for the replies. We are soooo excited and can't wait for him to come home. I will post pictures as soon as he gets here. I am leaning towards a metal crate. So he can see out of the sides. He'll only really been in it at night (in my room) until he's potty trained. I figured even though I'm home all day he could still use it as a den if he wanted to. What size should I get? 18 inches seems so small. |

| Welcome! You will love it here! I prefer the black metal ones. We keep one for Foxy in the living room and I too drape a blanket over it to keep out the draft, its her little den and she loves it. She will sleep in it with the door wide open.
