What was your reason for getting a Yorkie? Where did you get your Yorkie? What was your reason for getting a Yorkie? We all don't just wake up one day and say hey this is the dog breed I want :scratchhe... There has to be a reason? Please tell why!:Puppy2: Also where did you get your Yorkie from? Breeder, shelter? etc. Thanks all! :D God bless! :heart to :thankyou2 |
My sister came to live with me for a little while and she had a 6 month old Yorkie, Lacey. I fell in love with the breed through her. A few years later I had my sweet Annie B. She was a rescued breeder from a puppy mill and the best Yorkie ever! When DH finally decided he wanted his own dog he choose to find a Yorkie because of how great Annie was. We were soooo lucky to find Boo in a local rescue. He was an owner turn in, don't know why, he is an amazing dog! After I had to say good-bye to Annie suddenly last year, we were incredibly blessed to get Gracie Ruth from a YT'er who lives just a few miles from me. And then later we were unbelievably lucky to get Yogi from the same YT'er. I don't know what I've done to be so blessed to have these 4 amazing dogs in my life, but I grateful every day for them. |
I have always wanted a yorkie since I was a kid- because I thought they were cute. But now my boss has one, and she is the best little dog ever. I work at a preschool and Livee just walks freely around the school- like a hall monitor lol. She never barks and is 100 % potty trained and just so sweet. When I finally saved up enough money I asked her where she had gotten Livee and she she gave me the number to a breeder about 2 hours away from me. It was meant to be because she had three girls that would be ready just when I hoped (right at the start of summer) and I was the first one to call since she hadnt started advertising yet so I got pick of the litter :) |
I believe that my Saydie was sent from Up Above. I was not looking for a dog but badly needed something to hold on to at that time in my life like an Angel she came and changed my whole life. A breeder/friend brought her to me. |
I wanted a small dog that I could take just about anywhere. I also picked the the yorkie because of the coloring. I got her from a breeder, I would have rather rescued but I have two small children. I plan on getting a male in the future, hopefully it will be a rescue!! |
Our Lhasa Poo suddenly became ill and had to be put down. We were looking to see what was available in our area. This little yorkie came up THREE times, I thought there must be something to it if she was put in front of me three times. So I called and talked to her foster mom then we saw her and adopted her from a no kill animal rescue. Hubby wanted a small dog who could go in the car with us, our daughter wanted a yorkie and her she is! |
I am 52 yrs young and have dogs my entire life. I got divorced 13yrs ago and when I moved out I couldn't take ANY of my animals with me:( I was heartbroken. I lived with a man that I ended up marrying. We bought a house and I told him I needed to have a dog. He is not as much an animal lover as I am...I finally convinced (told) him that I was going to get a dog. I wanted something small (I always had medium to big dogs) that didn't shed, I have allergies. Yorkies were not my first choice...I finally decided on a yorkie. I bought her from a local breeder. Well!!!!! BOTH of us fell in love with the breed...When Sadie was 2yrs old I told him that she was lonely and needed a playmate :p ! So.....that's when Lillie came into the picture..He has done a complete turn around...He kisses the girls before he kisses me!! Now he tells me we should have a boy!! for him!!!! I would LOVE to get another but, I we take the girls everywhere with us...including camping...I told him I don't have enough arm or lap room for another dog! I do all the care taking for the girls...feeding, bathing, grooming, walking....if he helped me out more I would probably consider getting another one....maybe someday! |
Always loved Yorkies I've always loved Yorkies and small dogs in general. My dad bred pit bulls and it's a great memory I have as a child and wanted to be able to do the same for my kids. My dad always said if you could get the personality of a small dog in a big dogs body you'd be all set. I got both my Yorkie pups from breeders. One with whom I am not pleased with because breeding will not be an option with the female she sold me :(. Upside is it's really motivated me to learn more about the breed and breeding so that maybe someday I can please someone with a wonderful healthy dog :animal36 I'm actually going to a show this month and hoping to learn more and maybe find a breeder with whom I can trust and eventually get a show quality female to breed or maybe just show...I just love Yorkies! I'd like to become one to preserve the standard Yorkie and make it easier to get a standard Yorkie as a pet and to do away with unethical breeders. They've always been my favorite dog breed! Soooooooooooooo cute!!!!!!!!!!! |
While on vacation in South Beach, Miami this past November I got to see this breed in person. I instantly fell in love! Everyone had them down there. I looked at a tiny little girl in a pet store, but she was also being looked at by someone else. I got to hold her while the first lady looking ran out to her car. The lady decided to buy her and I had to hand her back. I sobbed like a 7 year old cause I just thought I had to have that dog. Came back home and the DH said "NO DOGS". Disappointingly, I put it to rest. A week later he tells me he will buy me one for Xmas. WOO HOOO...and Sophie arrives in my arms less than a week later. That's the "how". The "why". I don't know. I've never owned a dog before, even as a child. There were five kids in the house...no room for pets, as my parents would say. :) Now, I'm working on the DH to let me get a Biewer. Since Sophie proved to be challenging to potty train and has a "chew" problem, he has said even louder and stronger "NO DOG". But oooohhhhh I want another so badly.....:( |
I loved the look of yorkies, when I was a kid a lady had a TINY TINY little female yorkie and I thought she was the CUTEST THING EVER!! I loved how they had the long flowy hair, the big standing ears, how you could put cute little bows in their hair!! I fel more in love with the fact that they don't shed. We travel in the summer alot to our MILS house and a small dog was something I could bring with me always and if I needed someone to watch her my mom would always watch a small dog, so a yorkie it was!! My dreams came true Oct.2008 :D |
I had my little terrier PTS (16yrs) and said no more. Can't go threw this pain again I thought. I have always had a dog in my life. My GF had a little Yorkie and after three years of being dogless I decided it was time again for a dog in my life. I tried for 9mos to rescue a homeless Yorkie from rescues but they never even answered me. I worked so that was a no-no to them. So buy one I did on my birthday 5/11/04 from a pet store in up state NY. Buddy was 14 wks old and weighed 6.5lbs. I loved his size. He was not friendly to me and only wanted to go back into his crate, the only home he ever knew I suppose. I didn't care ,I couldn't put him back into that crate. I bought him and have never, ever been sorry. He became my little shadow within a day, was easy to train and is my best friend. He's healthy, loving, smart and beautiful. |
I had just finished chemo and radiation and had was stuck home feeling pretty aweful, I could not go back to work for a while until my blood levels were correct ( still working on that) , my children are 25,21 and 13 they all are very busy with thier own lives, school , working and my youngest is a competitive cheerleader, I had sickenss and empty nest syndrome , I went to a cancer support meeting where I had a melt down , a lady said did you ever thing of a dog, I thought Hmmm, she said they dont care if you look terrible one day, they dont care if you clean your house , they are glad to stay with you on the couch if you feel horrible one day... I discussed it with my Dr and she said yes great idea... I had radiation on my pelvic area which left them soar and a little bit of nerve damage so it had to be a small dog, I came home googled little dogs and decided on a Yorkie.. I thank god everyday for Laci she has been my angel.. she loves me no matter what I feel like, what I look like like, or if Im tired she still loves her mama:thumbup::thumbup: |
Our 15 yr old Westie had just passed away, my mom was in a nursing home seriously ill, my husband is a Parkinson patient and I had just retired from 40+ yrs in banking.... We both missed our little dog so much and we realized that we needed that "happiness and pure joy" that a dog brings to our lives. I wanted a Yorkie because of the size and beauty and we knew we loved terriers. A friend told us about a breeder he was friends with and we fell in love with Annie the first visit we made to see her. I call her out "stress-buster", when things get tense or sad, she's right there to cuddle up and give you that big juicy kiss to let you know she loves you....it makes everything better. Her zest for life is inspiring !! YORKIES FOREVER !! |
We live in the city, in a condo. Our association has a 20lb weight limit, so to a certain extent a small dog is our only option. I also work for myself, and wanted a pup that could go to the office, and travel with me fairly easily. Mobility is a must! I initially looked at cavaliers, but yorkies won me over once I started comparing the two breeds! We ended up getting Remy from a "hobby" breeder, probably a 'byb' breeder in site lingo... but she is came across very dedicated, diligent, and informed. |
I've wanted a Yorkie since I was little. I always thought they were the cutest little dogs. We were not allowed to have pets when we were children because my mother does not like animals. I never thought I'd be able to afford to have a Yorkie, but got an opportunity through my son. He's been dating a girl for over 2 years now whose family has a Yorkie. They decided to breed her one more time and offered us our choice of the litter at half price of what they charge others. I saved my spending money for months so I could get one. :) |
Honestly, I don't know. I was looking for a dog for about a year, or I knew I wanted one. I've had dogs all my life but they're been family dogs. I'm in college right now and I knew it was time to get my OWN dog to call mine. So, I went searching online looking at the different breeds. I'm not a big partier, I don't go out late night partying often like a lot of my friends and I needed a "companion!" I actually first looked at bulldogs but was like... ehh, I don't know. It didn't totally click and I kinda wanted something smaller. I also had to keep in my mind that my step-dad, whom I live with, is allergic so I looked into all the hypoallergenic breeds and got stuck on Yorkie for some reason. Boy, did I get a good companion! Jackson is definitely one of the best dogs I've ever had! He is sooo smart and learned all the tricks I taught him soo fast. I love his size, weighing in at 13lbs! He has a few quirks but he's still just a pup at 6 months old. 90% of the time he's really good and laidback and always has been for a puppy! I consider myself really lucky! |
I have always loved small dogs. Growing up, I had two shih-tzus (my parents still do :D) and I knew I wanted a dog for years! While I was going to school away from home, I was too busy, and my parents said that when I came home for the summer, they did not want another dog in the house... I've known I have wanted a yorkie for several years now, so I waited until after I got married and had a permanent place of my own, and surprised my hubby! I got Couver from a woman who was re-homing him. She got him from a breeder, so I honestly don't know if she was a byb. However, I did call the breeder to ask some questions, and she was very helpful...:) So on Feb 20th of this year I brought Couver home and have been in love ever since! |
My first dog is a Shih Tzu. When we (I) decided we were getting a second dog, I knew I wanted a Yorkie. I love the look, the size, the personality. I was going to get a Yorkie mix originally but then the more I read up on them, the more I wanted a purebred just for health reasons. I was afraid of getting a mixed breed with health problems. |
after my very terrible divorce, i met another guy who lived with me for a few years, after that was over i deceided i wanted something to love since children wasnt really happening. i always my whole life wanted children, just wasnt in the cards for me so i got the next best thing. and let me tell you, shes the best thing that ever happened to me.. life without my lexi is no life for me at all. she makes me want to wake up in the morning.. |
My 14 year old border collie was really poorly and we knew we were going to lose her soon so I knew I couldnt live without a dog in my life. I chose a yorkie because my sister has a cute one and this time I wanted a small dog that didnt molt.We got her from a breeder if you can call her that. To this day shes knocking out puppies every couple of months , so I have my doubts. :D |
My friend had breast cancer and knew she wouldn't come out of it . She asked me several times to take care of Mollie Jade . The night she died , her brother came to my home with a letter from my friend telling me that she was 1000 % sure that I would be the best person to take care of this adorable little one . |
We wanted a friend for our Lhasa, who is very playful and our older dachsund was just not in the mood to play so much, so I went to the pet store one day - a local one in town where the woman sells puppies for local breeders. I was looking for a girl, and a lhasa actually. They didn't have any, but they did have Rosie, who is a Yorkie/Lhasa mix. (Turns out she's tiny and does not look Lhasa at all, but she's a doll, so I don't care!) I have truly fallen in love with this little girl and would recommend a Yorkie to anyone - they have great personalities, adorable, loving, fun, too small to cause much trouble in any way, easy to take around because they're so small, will wear clothes (never thought I'd say that), etc. We adore our doggies and they know it. |
i've always had big breeds i still got a germenshepard 2 this day but i liked the look of a yorkie & i;m glad i got one . I also got a little chihuahua so small breeds 4 me fom now on |
Over the years of my life I've owned many dogs, almost all of them rescues. We visited a PetSmart one Saturday afternoon, they have adoptions here on Saturdays. The gal was a rescue and she had an adorable Yorkie puppy. I fell in love at first sight, but another lady had been there earlier and had expressed an interest, but had left. While I was holding her the lady returned and adopted this puppy right from under my nose. We went home that day with a Cocker Spaniel who we loved until the day we lost him to cancer. We began looking for another dog to love, who needed a family. I found Punkin on Craigslist and when we saw her we knew she needed us as much as we needed her. I can't emphasize enough...adopt, rescue, adopt....there are so many animals out there looking for homes where they can find loving families. |
I picked a yorkie after I fell in love with a picture that one of my former co-workers had of her "teacup" yorkie (i know there is no such thing now). I couldn't get a dog when I was younger but decided that when I got older and lived on my own that a yorkie was going to be living with me. Years later here I am living with my bf who isnt much of an animal person but I mentioned to him that I wanted a yorkie. Little did I know he actually listened and did some research on the breed and saw that they were good for apartment dwellers and are hypoallergenic. Then one day out of the blue he said that we should start looking for a yorkie puppy for me!:animal36 I love it when I get my way...I mean comprmise:p |
We have a chocolate lab that is a big fulumpa lump...doesn't like to cuddle just wants to romp and wrestle he weighs 90 lbs:eek:. He was a rescue from a dog shelter. My husband and I were shopping in a mall and they had a petland I decided "just to look" they had yorkie pups and I wanted one so bad but at the time money was tight. So August of last year there was a puppy mill raid in my town that rescued 953 dogs of various breeds. After the cleaned them up about a month later they allowed the public to come and apply for adoption. Wriddle Dog was in a crate all alone clear in the back away from everyone trying not to be noticed. But I fooled him I noticed him right away!!!!! His papers said he was 3 and needed dental.....who cares I WANT HIM NOW!!! On my application I put that I needed him as much as he needed me. I went away for 2 weeks to Georgia to help my sister with her 1 1/2 yr old daughter while she had colon surgery. On my way home I cried because I didn't want to leave them and about 3 hours (4 hours of bawling) from home the shelter called and asked if I was still interested in my Wriddle Dog! I went the very next day and adopted him! See I did need him more than he needed me! I LOVE him. He still has ALOT of issues but so do I and we both can live with them LOL. RESCUE RESCUE RESCUE....he saved me! |

I know how that is. I feel like Teddy was a special angel too. I had just moved in with my bf and like an hour away from my family so I was having a really hard time adjusting. To make it worse my bf was working nights so I was like always alone. So for my birthday he got Teddy for me and we are inseparable!! |
I wanted a yorkie since I was a little girl. I gave my best friend a toy yorkie for her birthday that had long flowing hair and an adorable face. I found that I used to play with it every time I went to her house. I knew I wanted a yorkie. Fast forward 20+ish give or take years after getting married, my husband and I knew we wanted a dog. He wanted a husky or something big and "manly" but after months I convinced him: small dog=small poop and that most of the small dogs on my list were non-shedding, which would be cleaner. I was obsessed with finding a yorkie for a number of months though I must admit, I didn't know very much about the breed. I almost got scammed by being too enthusiastic about an email that was too good to be true, but the photo's they sent me of the puppy i was interested in were clearly different dogs. Finally I found an ad in the San Jose Mercury for a local litter of puppies. My husband and I just went to "look" and we returned with Genghis. He has been the most lovey dog I've ever had. |
For 25 years I've suffered from mental illness'ss . Throughout this time I have worked , had a child who is on the autistic spectrum/has cognitive delays> raised him alone for close to 16 yrs. Nearly 6 ago things became dreadfully worse> Then 2 years ago I was offically deemed fully disabled . The Psych DR. reccomended a service dog to me, I had not had a dog before , however grew up with family dogs. I wanted a small dog , but, lived in a no pet zone, apartment community. With the disability's though I was granted premission . It was a rough choice for me to make! I had never seen a Yorkie before! In real life. It was a toss up between a Shih Tzu or Yorkie at the end .I saw a Shih Tzu when a lady was at the gas station with her dog, and the dog was so cute and sweet. I just loved the dog. I thought the Shih Tzu is adorable . But the Yorkie, Every picture, and all the things I kept reading about them , I kept coming back to this breed. I was lured to them. I could not stop myself . I was hooked from the moment I led eyes on them. Before I ever saw A yorkie for real> I loved how they looked. So I read about them. I got my Puppy from a breeder. The day I was determined to bring home a baby was the day before mother's day. It will be a year , exactly on this Saturday :) . |
From Frenchie to Yorkie I always wanted a Shiba Inu. I went to a couple breeders. They all emphasized that they are a high spirited, independent breed... and that they'd need some space to roam. I had such a high respect for this dog that I decided not to get one because I didn't think that I would be able to give it what it needed because I live in an apartment. So I looked for breeds that do well in apartments instead. I narrowed it down to French Bulldog and Yorkshire Terrier. I couldn't find any Frenchies in my area (they're so adorable) so I got a Yorkie. After I realized I couldn't get my dream breed (Shiba) breed didn't really matter... it was temperment and Harley is the best Yorkie I could have. |
