We learned clicker training at obedience classes and I will say, Tatum doesn't need the clicker anymore but still to this day, if I dig it out of the drawer and click it, she's by my side in a shot! She still remembers that "click" equals "treat"! :D And by the way, you described the clicker training method very well. If I hadn't known what it was, that would have been great to hear. The "loading" part is very important and I think you did a great job explaining all of that. |

when i took milu to puppy class, i asked about clicker training, and was told that the word "yes" works just as well by the trainer. |
i think it's hard for dogs to understand words that sound too similar. i taught milu to 'spin' recently. and she would spin, but she would also bark at me a lot when i say "spin". i was confused at first  until when i try to ask her to do her other command "speak".... now she will only spin whenever i say 'speak'. poor little girl, she must have thought i was crazy! i am trying to figure out a way for her to do the speak command now, i guess i will have to change 'speak' to 'talk' as a command word. |

scruffs only listens to me outside when he hears me getting frustrated. whenever we are walking around outside and he is getting his "sniff" on or hears another person or dog, there is no way he's listening to me. if we are at the dog park on the other hand, if he wanders off by himself for a little while (while we secretly watch him of course) and we call his name he always comes immediately. it seems like if he knows i'm around and can see me, he doesn't care. if he is doing his own thing and then i show up, he wants to hang out with me. |

she also does that when i am eating and won't share with her. she will go through all her tricks in front of me when i am eating. and if that still doesn't work, she will go squeeze something out on the pee pad just so she can make me share a bite of my food with her! LOL your baby knows left and right!!?!?!?! that's amazing. i mean, she's gotta know the difference in order to do clockwise or counter clockwise right? wow, i think when you are walking her, you can say, turn left or go right, since your puppy can tell the difference. i think your puppy is smarter than i am, because i still can't tell sometimes! when we are driving, my fiance will often say. "turn right" ..... "No. your OTHER RIGHT!" lol. |

so when milu was a puppy and does her nightly puppy zooms, her daddy will say "down" to train her to stop on command. it was so cute to see her go so fast in circles yet drops down on her belly everytime her daddy says "down" hehe:animal36 |
I would be happy with 2 out of 10 times. My Harley (7 months) never comes when I call him unless I have a treat in my hand. He is constantly running from me at home. He loves to grab shoes and anything he is not suppose to have and run with it. He only wants you pet and hold him when HE wants you to...very stubborn. I have to keep him on a leash outside because he will not respond to you calling him. He has actually darted out of the house when the door was opened and ran down to the street. Luckily we live in a newer subdivison that does not have alot of traffic yet. It still really scares me. If anyone has any suggestions on how to get them to come when they are called I'm open to suggestions. |

I forgot to comment on your previous mention of changing "speak" to "talk" cause you think she was getting confused. That could very well be. When I was trying to teach Sophie to "shake" (this was just in the last month), she looked at me like I was crazy. But then I started to say "paw" instead, and she picked up on it right away. I think it is because I rub her paws and say the word paw when I do it. This was not intentionally planned. It just happened that way. So now "paw" is our shake. Try changing "speak" to "talk". it just might work! |
