| Another thing I want to add...Young puppies need ALOT of sleep..as you know, they have sudden bursts of energy and then will just flop for hours! so kiddies need to be taught to respect that..when the puppy is asleep it needs to be left in peace!

| Welcome fellow Hoosier to YT, I think you will get a lot of info here and most of it will be good. Hehe. I have five g-children, 2-15 and the biggest problem is watching the kids with the dog, not the other way around. Chloe Primrose loves the kids to death but they will get too rough w/her and I have to watch constantly even when their parents are in the room, if you know what I mean. Small bits of toys are a big problem mostly bcus the kids were here first and got used to spreading their toys all around. Its work but anyone can do it if you are willing to put in the time. Now I have a 2 lber and she will be penned for their entire visit.....no exceptions. I have read too many tragic stories right here to do otherwise. Good luck and have fun with all your babies. |

| Hi there and welcome to YT. I think it is really great that your asking this question before bringing home a yorkie puppy to your home with your family of young children. You have aready had great advice so far. I believe a larger yorkie would be best meet your needs and family too. Going through a Yorkie rescue would be a wonderful choice. A yorkie puppy is fragile , with very tiny bones, and delicate features. It is much like bringing home a human infant. In all the Yorkie books it will read the same , Yorkie puppies are not reccommended for families with small children. I agree that Children can be taught and supervised to handle puppies the right way. However, not all parents are able to supervise 24/7 children and puppy 100% of the time. Small children are impulsive. Puppies are unpredictable. Small children have accidents. Very easily do tragidies occur. Even when adults are handeling yorkie puppies. We see it all the time on YT. An adult trips over a yorkie pup, the pup is dead . It takes one wrong move the pup is gone. These babies are so fragile and delicate. It's something to highly consider when choosing one for a family with very young children. I worked as preschool teacher teacher for over 20 years. AND with infants and toddlers, was a director as well, and did many other supervisor jobs . PLease be careful when making this important decision. It should not be taken lightly. Best wishes to you.
