Just got off the phone with MARS and they said that the test only goes back to the grandparents which means there could have been mixing at the great grandparent level which is why there was a faint signal or that the breed that was mixed in isn't on the list of AKC registered dogs yet...she said there are so many more than what the test lists. I asked about ancestors that are extinct and she said that is not a possibility because it goes so far back it wouldn't show up on the test. It was more than likely the great grandparents.....She also said the test only shows 50% and won't show 80% or 65% so she could be 60% Yorkie and 40% something unknown and it won't be that specific.

Just to clarify, she said there are so many more breeds than the AKC has listed....from other areas etc etc

One last point, the breeder mentioned her very specific breeding program which she does not sway from her line which goes back years and years....I think she mentioned goes back to her parents....I would like to offer a non referral for anyone thinking about purchasing a Yorkie in the Massachusetts area. I really don't want anyone to have to deal with this kind of thing. I emailed the breeder very upset quite a few days ago with no response....That's not the 100% reputable breeder she claims to be and advertises she is! She never even got back to me and I'm pretty sure she's been following this thread because I saw her on my profile.....:thumbdown:thumbdown

You were upset when you contacted the breeder. Were you contacting her to tell her it was a Yorkie or angry because she sold you a poorly bred Yorkie?
I'm glad you found she was a Yorkie. I always believed she was. I really think the others in the test would have been what made the breed. She just is so cute. Gonna go look at her pictures ;)

I contacted the breeder before I got the results back. I wanted her to know that I was upset that she was a mix or just looked like one and pretty much everything else I've been complaining about...lol. Anyway, there was some mixing going back....oh well, right.

i would like to know what it says for someone with a pure bred yorkie. it might say the same thing that your pups says since these tests aren't that accurate. if it didn't costs that much i'd do it but i'm broke right now.

You know what, my husband said the same thing. He said there's nothing to compare it to...I might do it for Jonah just for sh*** and giggles....That'd be funny if he came back mixed...LOL!! Just kidding...

Maybe you can call the lab and see what the results would be if a sample was sent in from a pure bred dog because you want to compare.

Went to vets: Ksena is NOT 100% Yorkie or it would not have detected any other breeds. She's at least 50% Yorkie...Period.

I've read results of many dogs tested and out of those...only one ever tested 100% yorkie.

Mars even states different results can be obtained by testing the same dog twice. The test is not 100% accurate...it's 90% for parentage and the accuracy goes down greatly from the 2nd generation back.

That makes sense, that only 1 ever tested 100% Yorkie because it's a mix breed test. Most people feel confident that they have a purebred dog if they look like one and have the paperwork saying it is. My dog doesn't look purebred and the test showed something other than 100% Yorkie...

When I bought Gizmo I was told he was purebred but he just didn't look like all the other yorkies. We think that he's a Chorkie mix but we're not exactly sure. Especially bc the hair on his face wasn't growing out long like other yorkies around his age, but now that he gets older I think he looks more and more like a yorkie---but with a chihuaha's attitude! I don't care either way bc I think he just soooo adorable:D
