Tired of of the comments...
 

Ok, so this has been bothering me since I've had Couver.

I like to have his hair up so it stays out of his face. But, people automatically assume he's a girl because his hair is up. It upsets me. A girl even said something about him being a cross-dresser. I don't know why it is such a big deal, but people are weirded out that he has his hair up.

Does anyone here have a certain way that they explain the hair tie without people being weirded out about it?

I enjoy the look of him with his hair up, but even the hubby is bothered by the comments that people make... I'm just frustrated.

Don't worry too much about it . I had the same experiences when Nathan was alive . I never paid attention to what peoples said .

Just tell them they know nothing about the breed. When a Yorkies hair is longer you pull it up so that it's out of their eyes and won't damage their eye sight!! Simple just like the people that make the rude remarks!!!!! IMO...:rolleyes:

Try to get used to it... I have both of my boys in puppy cuts and no top knots and people still mistake them for girls! :rolleyes:

Couver is so cute in his pony!....I have three boys and they all wear their hair in a pony.....I keep Jake's more off to the side because he just looks better like that rather than one sticking up on his head......

I've gotten comments here and there but it doesn't bother me in the least....I just say, "They're boys".:rolleyes:......

Once I had a repair man here and he thought I had three girls...I just get amused by it...:p

Just explain to people that Yorkies wear a 'topknot'. Couver is adorable! I'd put a pretty blue bow is his hair, and let people's ingnorance roll off your back, like a duck does water.

I used to get that with Hot Rod also. I just tell them that he's my baby and if I want him to have a topknot than he will. :)

He is so cute. Too bad they don't make bows that say, "I am a male"!!!!!

Actually there are quite a few bows with sports items on them. Do browns, greens, and plaids on your boys--fewer people then think the dog is a girl. Just a suggestion.

Thor's former owner had him in a top knot for a long time. I would train him sometimes, I would find myself saying "Good Girl!" over and over again. He's in a puppy cut now and I'd say maybe one in three people guess he's a boy. That's about as masculine looking as he is going to get. :)

We have some cute plaid bows for Seymour. He has a brown one with a bear in the center. Although he sometimes gets a light blue one at the groomer, we don't do pastels very often. I actually like the "softer" looking bows, but if I ask my hubby to get a bow out for Seymour....... you can bet that it is more "manly" than the one that Shelby gets! ;)

Most people who comment loud enough for me to hear say things like, "Oh, look, she even has a little bow on her." This is when all she has is a hair tie on her with her hair up like a turnip head (Hubby calls it that. I call it a broom or ponytail LOL). But I've noticed that whenever I use a blue hair tie, people automatically assume she's a boy. I don't bother correcting them. When it's a grey tie, they seem more unsure and actually ask. Half the time, when they ask, I tell them she's a boy. The other half of the time, I tell the truth. I really don't see the difference whether they know it's a girl or a boy much like I see no reason most of the time for strangers to know what I had chosen to name her. So I even have a fun boy name we sometimes say is hers depending on mood and person interested. ;) Her jackets are gender neutral or lean more toward the boyish side too.

I've only maybe had to explain briefly to strangers twice before about her hair getting in her eyes if it wasn't tied back. There are times I like leaving it down and she can still see, just not as well, and walk her that way. She seems to attract less attention at that point so we are left well enough alone to do our thing. :D

I don't worry about it too much. Whether people think she's a boy or girl, they aren't making the assumption with rudeness as their intention. But that girl who called Couver a cross-dresser, I hope she was just too young to know better.

I think a lot of people assume yorkies are girls regardless. A lot of people think rylie Is a girl but I just tell them He is a boy. I don't care what other people think or say. I think yorkies of both sexes are gorgeous with long hair and a topknot with bow. I don't like the visor cuts personally. I like a topknot.

You can tell them the yorkie breed standard says that the hair on head is to be tied up in a topknot with bow. It does say they are to have a bow. You fan also say it's to keep his hair out of his eyes. And that you just like the way it looks

You can not only use the explanations of it being part of the breed standard to have a topknot and that it makes it easier for the dog to see by having the long hair pulled up and back; but you could also "blame" it on the groomer! :awink:

Try not to worry about the comments..everyone, without fail, thinks that Molly is a boy..even when she is wearing her lovely pink spotty puppia harness, with matching pink lead! :rolleyes:
