I was just browsing around online at Yorkie pictures and came across this Yorkie puppy (which is for sale). This little one is very cute, but that is a ZIP TIE around it's neck!!! :cry: WHY would anyone ever put a zip tie on a little babies neck like that! :eek: This is so upsetting! Makes me so angry. :mad:

Is it a rescue? The pup is cute, but I too can't fathom why ANYONE would put something like that around a pups neck...:(

Nope....it is a "breeder" that has this little one for sale :cry:

That's not very smart anyway. Why would ayone put something like that around it's neck. It could get caught on something or the zip could get pulled and strangle the poor thing. Can you contact this person and give say something?

I don't even like the yarn or ribbon I see on necks! I wonder if they've heard of microchips?

It makes no sense at all, and is very maddening. Some people shouldn't be allowed to own pets imo:(

I know...I agree with all of you....there is no excuse for this. It is just SO dangerous :cry: Geez, why don't people THINK before they do things this stupid! :mad: I feel so sorry for that poor baby :cry:

Seriously though, this so called "breeder" needs to know just how *WRONG* this is :cry:

That's what I thought too....a way of identifying the pup...but you're right, it is very, VERY wrong :mad: Not to mention, incredibly dangerous! :mad:

I hate yarn on the necks too....what is WRONG with some people!!! :mad:

What do you use to distinguish between puppies when recording weights as they grow? Do you read the microchip each time you weigh? I don't have a reader and have not chipped the puppies yet. Do you chip them right away?

I have yarn around mine. I change it every few days so that it never gets too tight or too loose. I had a soft velcro in different colors that I was going to use, but I didn't have 5 colors so I used the yarn this time. I would like a better method than the yarn. But why is it so bad? I am feeling like I shouldn't even be admitting to the yarn. But seriously, I would never do anything to hurt these precious little ones!

I would never use zip ties though -- they would not give at all if they got caught on something and just the hard plastic seems like it would be terribly uncomfortable and might rub them raw.

the most dangerous part of using a zip tie is that if it gets pulled just right it will tighten on the neck and possibly chock the dog if it gets tight enough :thumbdown Very sad that a breeder is doing this, you would thing a breeder would know better but i guess not in this case

OMG -- now I realize how horrible that really is. I thought it was bad enough already, but wasn't even thinking that they would keep getting tighter. But you're right a zip tie will just keep getting tighter if it gets pulled on at all -- it won't adjust in reverse, but it will keep getting tighter! How could anyone do that?

I'm not a breeder but I wonder if different colored bands using material or ribbon and velcro would work.(?)

I noticed you said you used velcro before. There is a velcro available I've got to tie up my plants with. (Got it at Home Depot) It's green fabric and I'm sue if you used a sharpie or magic marker you could write a name of the individual puppy on it. I'm not a breeder but the problem of identifying these little critters intrigues me. Maybe this will help you. I don't think you're doing anything wrong by using yarn. Sounds like you're being very careful.
This thing with the zip tie is just plain wrong! What kind of a "breeder" would do such a thing? I just hope, based on this photo nobody would buy a dog from such a place. I'm going to try and find that ad to let them know.

Oh I wish I hadn't looked at that picture, it really bothers me. I hope someone who is experience breeder see's that picture and perhaps inform whomever the puppy owner is how dangerous that is.

Ok.....who e-mailed the breeder and posed as ME?

I got an e-mail directly from the breeder explaining the zip tie situtation and she sent me an e-mail directly to my e-mail address. I want to know how she got MY e-mail address.

I never e-mailed her asking her anything, nor did I ever contact her through Puppyfind.

Who from YT did this?

If she is a member here that's fine - but HOW did she get my personal e-mail address? I do not know this breeder so there is no way that she would of had my e-mail address. And why wouldn't she of just replied to this thread or PM'd me personally? Also, she sent me a reply from Puppyfind, directly to my e-mail, so it's as if I e-mailed her from Puppyfind when in fact I did nothing of the kind.

Here was her reply:

"Thank you for your consideration. We would not leave these on them if we were not monitoring them closely. We have never had a puppy to tighten them, however, we cannot leave them on them long as the puppies grow.

I wouldn't put anything but a soft harness on Rox for her first two years because I was so worried about her little trachea...
