Anyone have a yorkie this small? Every time I take Daisy to the vet for her shots the receptionist keeps saying "I haven't seen a yorkie that small". The vet says she is small but doesn't go on about it. She is 4 months old and weighs 1.4 pds. The vet says she is healthy and all her teeth look good. No heart murmurs. We also have 2 other yorkies 4mths. old they weigh 3 lbs. Daisy is very active and playful and eats good. I feed them Natural Balance. She is the boss and lets them have it when she doesn't want to play. My question is has anyone had one that small at that age. If so, how old are they and how much do they weigh now? I have pictures of Daisy in my album. |
My Oscar is nowhere near that small (he was 3 lbs when he came to live with us at 8 weeks and now weighs a whopping 11 lbs), but I know it is totally possible. Most likely she was the runt of the litter or the child of two runts. Now that the smaller the dog the more popular they are, more breeders are trying to breed smaller breeds even smaller. Would you post a pic? I would love to see her, I bet she's adorable! |
Wow! That's really small. Bet she's cute. |
My Myah was about 1.5 lbs when we got her at 3 months old. She is the runt of the litter...the rest were all bigger brothers. She is 16 months old now and is about 3lbs. and a few oz. She is healthy and doing great. |
Harvey was 1.4 lb when i brought him home at 8 weeks old, and he is just 3 years old now and weighs 3.5 lb. He is a little bundle of trouble, he thinks he is so tough and strong, like a big boy, he does have me worried at times the way he charges around on/off furniture, like a little whirlwind.:) But he is very healthy, despite being such a picky/fussy eater. |

Missy hit 2 lbs @ 16 weeks. So she is slightly bigger (currently 3 lbs @ 7 months and 1 week of age) than Daisy, but I always get those comments from my vet and the staff there. Even when I took her to the Specialist Hospital everyone commented that they'd never seen one so small. It makes you feel like you have a freak of nature ;) |
Small Yorkie My Versace was definately that small at 4 months old. She is now 4 years old and weighs in at just 3 lbs. Tiny dog with a huge heart!:aimeeyork |

Mad is a little bigger than her but when a went to get Maddie the breeder had an older pup about 5 1/2 months, from a different litter that was 1 pound 8 oz she was very tiny and full of attitude, They were holding her and not trying to find her a new home until she was old and big enough to do all of the health tests first. Tests all came back good and she just went to her forever home about 2 weeks ago. Still there are not a lot of dogs out there that that tiny, My vet works primarily with small dogs, but Mad is still the littlest one that he has had. We are hoping that she will out grow that status soon, and the thought of spaying her at this point makes me unbelievably anxious. As for growth they all grow at their own rate my little girl really slowed down more than we expected her too(but she's not done yet;)), however I have a friend who's little one went through a really good growth spurt at about 9 months she bumped up from 2 3/4 to 3 1/2 lbs, and Copper my boy went through his last growth spurt at 15 month:eek: he out grew most of his clothes and gained another lb:) |
My Micah is also the same age and the same exact weight..I think he's pretty small but his personality says otherweise..I don't worry about it..All his visits to the vet are normal..He plays all day and loves to play rough..He has absolutely no idea that he's so tiny..In his mind he thinks he's a pit..I wouldn't worry about it if I were you..:) |
Pablo is 2.5 and 8 months. I hope he gets to 6lbs. I like that weight. They are hardier. |
When I got Tenci she was almost 6 months old and weighed 1 pound. She was so tiny, I was almost afraid to hold her. She is 1 year, 9 months now and weighs around 2.5 lbs. My little Chip weighed 1.6 lbs when I got him, but he has gained a little weight, now he is my porkey yorkie weighing in around 3.75 lbs. I am always more careful with Tenci, I treat her like a princess, but she can run circles around the boys, and she is always ready to put them in their place. |

My dog Rex is also a picky/fussy eater what do you do about Harvey??? Rex drives me crazy with food we are constantly trying something he likes. |
Meg weighed around the same weight as your pup when I brought her home at 11 weeks. She is now almost 6 months old and a whopping 3.5 lbs! |
Marcel was 1 lb 4 oz at 16 weeks when I got him - and he is now 3 lbs (2 yr old) - and very healthy! |
1 Attachment(s) I have a pup from a litter we had in October. "Baby" weighed 1 pound, 4 ounces at 13 weeks. She is now 6 months old and weighs 2 pounds, 4 ounces. I hope she gets to 3 pounds but have my doubts. Here's a picture of her at 4 months old. |
Abbi was 1 pound 2 ounces when I got her at 17 weeks. She was 1 pound 6 ounces at 23 weeks. She seems to have grown quite a bit in the last week or so, so I'm not sure what she weighs now. She drives my 6.5 and 9.9 pound boys crazy when she wants to play. She just doens't give up. They both play with her and "mouth" (kind of pretend to bite) her and it scares me to death because they could snap her little legs with their big strong bites, but they're very gentle with her. She (according to the growth charts) looks to be under 2 pounds fully grown, but all my yorkies are larger than they should be, so I'm assuming that she'll be around 3 pounds. For some reason, I just seem to grow then big! I worry about her much more than I did the boys when they were small. She just seems more delicate. But she's doing fantastic. My vet said that she's the smallest dog they're ever had in their offices. She told me that she won't even consider spaying her until she's a year old and even then we'll have to see how much she weighs. She's got a strong heart, great teeth and "all her holes in the right places". So the vet said she's extremely healthy. Michele :-) |
Wow I cannot imagine having a 2 lb dog fully grown. Laddy is 6 months and 2.8lbs and I am hoping he gets at least 3.5. Even as a puppy the size scares me. They are just to brave for their own good with jumping etc. no matter how hard I try to stop it. |
My mom's 11 yo yorkie is just under 2 1/2 pounds, so I'm used to being around small dogs. My husband tells me that I'm spoiling Abbi rotten by lifting her off the couch and not letting her "be a dog" and jump down. I'm much happier when she's in my lap or on the floor on one of the new pillows that I've made for her. Funny thing is - I made two larger pillows for the boys and two smaller ones for her. She's sound asleep in the center of one of the biggest pillows and the boys are both curled up on the small pillows. It looks really funny. Makes her look even smaller than she is. Michele :-) |
Lexi was that small at that age too! She just turned 4 and weighs 3 lbs and is typical yorkie-thinks she's at least 20 lbs and loves to talk! They probably just don't see dogs that small in their vet office maybe and that's why the girl makes the remarks about your baby being so small. |
Toby is 4 and is 3 lbs, and he is healthy. Your puppy is just going to be petite :) |
My Razael (the baby of the family) was 1 pound 11 oz. at 14 weeks and I was so worried she would be under 5 pounds, but am proud to say she is 6 pounds now at 19 months. she hasn't gained for months, so guess this is the size she will stay and I couldn't be happier. My favorite size is 6 to 8 pounds. |
Yep, I do not breed for small, but it happens sometimes. I gave them both to my mom. Itsy Bitsy is 2 years old & weighs 2 lbs. My mom wished for another small one & she got her wish. Thumbelina is 8 mos. old & weighs alittle under 1 1/2 lbs. I didn't keep them, as I show my dogs & she really wanted them, it makes her happy. Anything for my momma. |
my bree was 13 oz at 8 weeks and 1lb 4oz at 12 weeks. she is over 7 months now and just a shade over 2lbs she is very hearty but i still worry about her being so small. i am so glad my other furkids are so gentle with her :) and yes, she is a hit at the vets because she is cute but no one really comments on her size :p |

I believe Silvia was about that size at four months. I don't have her baby book with me to see her exact weight, but she was just under 2lbs at six months old, so that's about right. She is four and a half years old now and right at 2lbs. 14oz. The breeder estimated her to be around 4-5lbs, but she just never made it there. We have been fortunate to not have any health problems with her. Maybe your baby will just be a small one.......a "pocket puppy" as my DH calls her! |
Sophie Kate is a member of the Big Beautiful Yorkie club (the BBY), she is 10 months old and weights 7 lbs 7 ozs. I get comments all the time from people saying she is small I cannot imagine having one weighing 3 lbs - I bet they are all cute. |
Molly was 1lb. 6oz. when I got her at 10 weeks. She is now 3 lbs. 8 oz. She is a healthy eater along with her occasional snacks (canned dog foods, yorkie yummies, bully sticks). Since her weight hasn't changed now for a month or so, I'm kind of thinking she's going to stay at that weight. Boy, and I thought my little one was small. Your little girl is small and sweet though and very cute. |
