| First Heat Hello everyone! This is my first discussion, so I hope I am doing it right and putting it in the right place. I have an 11 month old female yorkie that I am patiently waiting to go into heat. I have never bred my own yorkies, but have been around them my whole life (33 years). I want to breed her on her second heat or third, but I don't know if I have missed her first, or if she has never gone into it. I took her around a male yorkie last week to see if I could stimulate her, and she wanted NOTHING to do with him! He was very interested in her though. I have noticed her nipples have raised a little the last couple weeks, but I haven't noticed any swelling or discharge of any sort. Is there a way to tell if your dog has been in heat before and you have missed it? Do I need to make a visit to the vet to make sure nothing is wrong? I feel so dumb in this area of yorkies, yet I know so much about all other areas! Thanks so much for any feedback. |

| Silent heats are possible, so you could miss it. It isn't probable though. Small breeds generally go into heat earlier than large ones but it could still take a few more months. How much does she weigh?

| I would say she weighs around 5 to 5.5 pounds. |

| Zoe just finished her first heat. She went into heat at 11 months and it lasted about 3 weeks. That is about average from all of the research I did. |
