♥ Eeeek, I did it...and I'm freaking out! ♥

Well after posting and deciding twice NOT to spay Missy right now, I picked up the phone today and called my vet. I voiced my concerns about her having 2 surgeries in the last 8 weeks, and also being sedated twice for xrays on top of it. I said that I really want to get Missy spayed before her first heat (she's 7 months old now) but that I'm worried about putting her through so much in such a short period of time. She is so little (3 lbs) and I worry about how much her little body can take.

My vet assured me that she is VERY confidant that Missy will handle the spay and anaesthetic *just* fine. She has proven that she handles anaesthetic and her last surgery (the screw removal) was 2 weeks ago. She says that she suspects Missy will heal up nicely, and she thinks that I should go ahead with the spay now.

So, I booked the appointment, and now I'm FREAKING OUT. I really hope that I'm making the right decision.

I sense that Missy is going to go into heat soon. Her mood is just changing, and her appetite has decreased a little. I was going to let her have a heat and then do the spay, but I dunno...something tells me to just go ahead and do it, get it done with, and have all of this surgery stuff behind us so that she can be a NORMAL puppy and play again. This poor girl has been confined to an ex-pen for 9 weeks now, and still needs to be for 2 more weeks to heal from the screw removal.

I'm going to have the surgery done by laser. And I *think* that I'll get her an AVID Microchip (any thoughts on this?). I'll also have her teeth checked to see if any of them need to be pulled.

Gosh, I'm a bundle of nerves! You guys know on Wednesday I'll be on here whining to you all. I just hope that she makes it through this.

Missy is such a strong girl, she will be fine. I will keep ya'll in my prayers. I know no matter what anyone says or how many times you hear that she is be fine you will (like all of us do) worry until you know for a fact that she is safe and doing great!

Yes, I will be worried sick. It is so hard to make such a big decision. I just hope that I'm making the right one. I already made an appt for her twice before and cancelled it both times. This time I am sticking to it though.

If she's done well the past two time with anaesthesia she should be fine for her spay as well. I know it's hard to not be nervous but she should be fine. Be sure he vet checks to see if any baby teeth need to be pulled so she doesn't have to be put under again for that

I think your concerns are totally normal, and I do think Missy is a resiliant, adorable little girl and she will be in my thoughts. She is probably thinking "Don't worry mamma, I'm a big girl I can do it!"

As mommys we will always worry. But you know in your heart if it's the right decision. You seem to be adamant about it, which makes me think your heart knows what it's doing.

I had Couver neutered today. I was freaking out all day, and he ended up being fine. He got his rabies shot and AVID chip all at once. I am really happy with my decision, but of course I was worried all day.

Microchipping a pet is one of the best decisions. That way, if she is lost and her collar somehow falls off, she can be identified and brought home. ALSO, if someone claims that she is their pup, you can have her scanned to prove that she belongs to you There are some bad people out, and I do not trust strangers to return my baby just because he has tags.

I think that Missy will do fine... She has been under anesthesia before, so she should be alright. While I am no expert, I believe that the health benefits of spaying/neutering far outweigh the drawbacks, so feel confident in your decision, and she will be fine

I feel for you Bonnie is getting spayed on Thursday. She will also get a microchip. I do think the chip is a very good idea.

Shaunna, like I said when I PM'd you, follow your gut and do what it tells you.. if this is what it is telling you to do.. I am sure it is the best for Missy.

I've been wondering where you've been! I haven't seen you post in awhile, maybe I've just been missing them. How's the Gucci-man doin'?

Thanks for being supportive. Honestly, I'm not really sure if I should do this now, or do it later. I'm driving myself nuts thinking about it! So, I'm just going to do it now and get it all over with!
