Did you have your puppy shipped?? Hi everyone! As you know, we have been looking for a sister for Zeus. My husband prefers to adopt a little girl who needs a home, rather than get a puppy, as they find homes easier. Anyways, I found one in Utah and that is a long, long drive from NC. So, we could have her shipped, which I really don't want to do. Can any of you offer me advice or tell me about your experience with shipping? Thanks so much! |
I had Tucker shipped, and I had no problems. The breeder made sure to put lots of labels all over his crate that said DO NOT TOUCH. This was important because our Yorkies are so cute that the airline staff will often take them out & play with them, and you really don't want a bunch of strangers handling your dog. Anyway, a lot of people disagree with shipping, and I understand their points - but personally I had no problems... |
I had Coco shipped and it was a 6 hour flight. She was about 9 or 10 weeks old and tiny. She was barely a pound. She did great. They took real good care of her there. I would do it again in a heartbeat. |
I had Daisy shipped from Miami to New Jersey via Continental. She was 12 weeks old and about 1 1/2 pounds. Her crate was wrapped in so much bright yellow tape it looked like a crime scene. She was off the plane and in my arms within 10 -15 minutes. She came through with flying colors and I would definitely do it again. :) |
Where does the pup ride during shipping? I know when we fly, we get to put Eddie under the seat. In fact, America West doesn't even allow pets shipped in the regular luggage area. |
It's kind of exciting to watch the plane your puppy is on arrive. You get all excited and the first friendly face they get to see is their mommies. But don't do what I did if you decide to get her shipped and wait at the airport for 5 HOURS before the flight arrives. Because you WILL go crazy..haha |
i live in FL and maisy came down on an airplane from iowa!! no problems whatsoever except her flight was a little late and we had to be sure to give her nutracal as soon as we picked her up, since we can't be sure she ate enough on the plane and didn't want her to get hypoglocemia!! but everything else was fine |
Thank you all for sharing your experiences. The only problem I'm having is that the puppy would not be coming from a breeder. The person trying to find a home for her, received her as a gift and doesn't have the time to take care of her. I really want to rescue this little girl, but am afraid that the owner won't take the precautions needed to make sure that she gets here safely and in good health. I found her on puppyfind.com and emailed the owner. What do you guys think? Here is the listing..... http://www.puppyfind.com/view_listin...b87ca5dc79d60d |

She seems too good to be true! |
Both of mine came from overseas . Everything went alright . |
They only want $1 for her?? I don't get it. |

I know, that is what I am worried about. I talked to the owner over email and he said that it would be about $550 to ship. Does that seem right? |

Just don't send anything until you have a flight confirmation. Or you can do money orders through the post office and insure it so you can track it and put a stop to it. Keep all the receipts and all conversations over email. Just in case..But I hope you get her. :D |

Thanks for the advice, I will do just that. I am going to call tonight and see what I think. If we decide not to, maybe there is someone here on YT from Utah that could give her a good home. She is just precious! |
Wow, that DOES seem too good to be true. But you never know! It would be great if someone close could check out the situation for you. I wonder if he would let YOU book and pay for the flight yourself..? She is just a doll! |

did you ship? my husband is a breeder and we ship all over the U.S about every two or three weeks. Ours are beagles. We ship Counter-to-counter ONLY. NO CARGO!!!!!!!!!! Find out about that also. And it doesn't cost 500. to ship. We use US Air and we can ship to anywhere in the United States for 185. the shipper has to pay for a rabies shot if the dog hasn't had one and it must have a health certiciate. The overall cost is 215. without the rabies shot. There are a lot of scams going around. We list our beagles on a beagles for sale site and we had to emails last week wanting to send us cashiers checks for three thousand dollars and us deduct our cost and give the "shipping agent" the balance which would have been around two thousand dollars. How stupid do they think we breeders are? Be very careful. You should not have to pay 500. to ship a dog. I would not us puppyfind. Lots of scams on there. |
Make sure you ask him for updated pics. Those are photos of a puppy and the dog is listed as a 1 year old. That is also expensive for shipping. It usually is under 300., but still would be a good deal if you actually get the dog. Good luck. |
I agree with Sugars mom when I was looking to ship it was only 200-250 to ship. That seems way too high. Just be careful. |
lucky was shipped when he was 8 weeks old. he came from alabama to los angeles. not sure how long the flight was but he was fine. the most beautiful thing i had ever seen..when i went to cargo to pick him up ...he was in his crate sitting on the counter..all the other animals were in the back.. the lady working the counter said she wanted to see who picked up this little cutie....i dont know if anybody took him out and played with him though..but its possible |
No way $550 to ship! I shipped a rescue last year from Continental and it was $99 flight fee. of course it may have gone up a bit since last year but I can't imagine THAT Much. The other fees are Vet health certificate(required for flying) which runs anywhere from $25-75 depending if you have a regular vet. Crate fee, Maybe $25. Possibly gasoline fees to and from airport for shipper( I would guess anywhere from $5-30. You also must show rabies shot current for that age which most likely is no more then $10 extra at the Vet check. So the way I see it ....should be between $100-$250 tops depending what he already has. So then it makes you wonder if he can bull%$#@ about shipping fees , what else is he lying about? I mean, Even if he said pay for shipping and a bit more to cover his costs of raising the dog, you might have been able to respect that and pay $550 but ........well you know! :thumbdown |
shiping is not 500 dollars i would see if shiping hey i ship puppie and it is 200 for under 10 lbs for most airlines that will ship and the pics of the dog they show are not a year old dog jmho |
Thank you all so much!! You\'ve have helped me greatly. I just want this little girl to find a home, if in fact it is not a scam. I did email and ask for updated pics, but haven\'t received a reply yet. I will keep you updated. You guys are the best! |
i ship puppies and its not even close to being right price. The highest a customer had to pay was 180. and that was for a Dane puppy weight 50lbs with crrier, and my Aunt got a Yorkie and had to ship her was under 200 and he came from back east to Oregon. Check airlines I went with Alaska airlines and went from Portland, OR to San Fran for 97.22 and the other was Continental from Portland, OR to Raleigh, NC for 177.40 and both of those included tax. SO I would watch the shipping cost sounds like she is asking to much for shipping... |
Shipping on Continental is about $100 - or was. Both my babies were shipped, and I had a devon rex cat shipped. No problem on any of them. Just be careful! "home phones" are easily cell phones just about anywhere. Scammers abound. |
For the price he is asking for shipping you could fly out and meet them even at the airport. BUT, I would suggest you see the place where they are living. Post the area where the puppy is and maybe someone on the forums live in the area. They could check for you. Try posting on all forums. It is 100% chance you will not find some help if you don\'t ask but only 50-50 if you do. Good luck!!! |
Isn\'t it sad that we can\'t even be sure that when we rescue a pet, we\'re not being scammed! What I would do is see if he\'ll let you book the flight yourself and see what his reaction to this is and go from there. Yes $500 is too much, my boy came all the way from Germany and it was only about 275 for all the paperwork and flight etc... |
P.S. My Biewers were shipped from Germany and one from Canada. They were/are fine. The mom of the babies I have now was one such puppy. My concern is that you know so little about the person selling the puppy. Ask for her vet\'s name and tell her you want to call him for a reference. You can offer yours to her, too. The carrier will make sure that the dog has UTD vaccines. Make a list of thongs you have concerns aboout. Ask them and write the answers. I am sure you can find someone in your town to give you some advice as well. Just cover all bases and still hope and pray for the best.. |
