| Yorkie puppies hi, I have 5 yorkie puppies who will be 6 weeks old on tuesday and my sister in law wants to give them to their owners than. I was just wondering if thats to early because the puppies are still nursing with mom alot and will only eat a little canned food and wont drink water on their own yet. I'm just scared to take them away from mom too early because they are both very dependent on eachother. Thanks ahead of time for he advice! |

| I believe it's best to keep the pups with mom til at least 12 weeks. 6 is way to early in my opinion |

| From what I understand they need to be with their mother until they are at least 12 weeks old.

| Hello and welcome to YT. Thats way too young. Small breeds need to stay with Mom until they are 12 weeks old..Mom teaches them social skills between 10 weeks and 12. |

| You should keep them for minimum 10 weeks. Longer if their are smaller yorkies. It would be VERY IRRESPONSIBLE OF YOU to let them go at that age. You did the right thing by coming here and ask for advice. Hope you will do the right thing, and keep them a little longer. And you'll have so much fun with them at that age. Try to feed the puppies before letting the bitch with them. You can also dress up the bitch so the puppies won't be able to feed from her. |

| I agree with everyone else. Certainly no earlier than 10 weeks and preferably 12 weeks. The new owners will be much happier to with a pup who is more appropriately socialized too! |

| Hi and welcome6 weeks is way too early for a yorkie puppy to leave mom. My puppies were still nursing at 10 weeks. They are just too small to leave mom that early. |

| Welcome to YT and please show us some pics we love to see babies on here!!!! I agree they need to know more social skills before they leave mum or you. I got my first yorkie at 8 weeks old and she is still very nervous intimitated (sp) and slight noise still makes her go weird sammy didnot even know how to play. My 2nd yorkie I got at 14 weeks and she is by far more social and has a more outgoing personality. /again thanks for joining our group!!!!!!

| I agree with the 12-week mark. I think eight weeks is okay but 12 weeks is best.

| Norm is 12 weeks and stated as a min. age to keep them to. Here is their link: Yorkshire Terrier Club of America Code of Ethics Go down to #8 of Code of Conduct. It is so much better for the pups - safety/health reasons and for social reasons. I have heard of so many pups being loss if left too early. Check out hypoglcemia information and share with her too. She needs to do her research as a good breeder. Those pups only have her to protect them. Good thing you came here to ask. T. |

| Warning Hello and Welcome to YT!!!! I too agree with everyone else 12 weeks is a great age. But....Just a word of advice, legally puppies are not to be sold / removed from their mother until they are 8 weeks old. If your sister in law insistes you can tell her that. Can I ask why your sister in law is invovled with rehoming your puppies?
