Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Trying to hump, OMG? Macy is 5 months, and NOT in heat that im aware of at all. Ive been checking so that i can diaper, onesie and separate them. My male is 7 months, and keeps trying to hump her!!! She wont let him though. Should i separate them now?? Nothing down there is swollen and shes not bleeding. Im confused as to why hes going after her already!

| They are just doing what is natural for unaltered dogs. To prevent them from having a pregnancy I would alter the male right now. He is old enough and it will prevent him from marking. The longer you wait, the great the chance he will start marking the house and the harder it will be to stop it.

I do not believe she is in heat, she actually bit him for it, and hes been pouting for a while. Poor guy got told off. anyways, i was looking for advice on the best way to separate them. Ive read up on diapers and onesies, but i doubt that to be reliable. I would HATE to shut them in completely different rooms. Ideas are more than welcome!

| Sorry, but I also saw your other thread thaT stated you didn't want to breed them. No need to get defensive. As much as you dislike putting them in seperate rooms, that is what will be needed when she is in heat. Diapers will not work. Belly bands will not work. Even crating one will not work. They can and HAVE done the deed with one crated. Don't assume she isn't in heat because she snaps at him. That is probably the very FIRST sign that she is in heat. In another week she will be flagging him.

No worries! I was not trying to be defensive, i have a hard time getting my words out sometimes LOL. A. They are first off, too young to breed. Period. B. No, i dont think i want to breed them together... Ive read on biewer and yorkies, and mixes aren't recognized here. I know they are in germany, but i dont think i really want to go that route. C. I do eventually want to breed them with other dogs, but not together. After testing, temperment, and showing, we will then venture into breeding. But as of now, i want to avoid it Ive read on several different times when people used different methods to keep their dogs from breeding, and i was looking for a successful one. Thom is an escape artist, so confining him to a crate would not work anyways. So i suppose i will put them in different rooms for now. How do i know for sure she is not in heat?? We have not had one spot of blood anywhere, and im an obssessive groomer over my babies, so i figured that would be something i would have noticed. Sorry if i cam off as hasty, or rude. I was just simply asking

| The besy way is to put them in seperate rooms. I know that sounds harsh, but you do not want to take any chances. I just dealt with this with my 2. When I asked here on YT, I recieved the best advice ever which was---If she is in heat your male will get through belly bands and diapers. He could even get through an x-pen is what I have been told. The only other for sure way to keep them from mating is to get him fixed, which it sounds like you dont want to do. Good Luck!!!

Yea, i was very doubtful on the belly bands and diapers. She did give him a chomp though, and he has not bothered her since. (a chomp right to the boy parts). He has been pouting on the couch for 2 hours. Poor guy. This is the first time he has tried it though. I dont know if it is a dominance issue that i should fix, or if she is in heat. We have not seen any signs of heat what-so-ever, and shes pretty young. I would feel horrible separating them for the wrong reasons, rather than fixing it.

When she does come into heat, be ready for some noisy sleep deprived nights. They will have to be separated and I know that my two did not like it. It will be crazy for at least 2-3 weeks. Another option that has been suggested is to have your male (or female I suppose) stay with a family member or friend until the heat is over. Good luck to you............check her daily for signs of her coming into heat so you know for sure.

| I swear they need to invent contraceptives for pups! Someone could make a million! When my girls go into heat we separate them immediately! This does not always work..dogs are so smart! Use the belly bands and panties. My Scottie male goes ballistic...humps everything in sight! He won't eat/drink. We had to give him a plush animal to um... use as a girlfriend. My females will bite and fight until they get ripe then....flagging starts and she will entice him....The little floozies that they are. I would check everyday. Use the belly band and diapers and at any sign she is starting her heat separate them promptly! It is spring... I think it's in the air!!! BTW... My son's dog got pregnant through a fence...so watch them when they're outside...Boy dogs will smell her for blocks!!!

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | Contraceptives would be such an ideal solution. Unfortunately they really don't exist, so best you separate them or neuter one of them if you want to avoid accidents and oopses. |
