Hello all
I wanted to thank all of you that helped me though my hard time with Tyler.
It has only been a week but I feel i need another dog yet I still miss my baby I feel alone. My son is at school all day and my hubby works days, so it was me and Tyler all day. Now it feels so lonely. I know I only had him for 8 months but it was a great 8 months I was so close to him he would watch every move I made. Am I crazy for wanting another dog so soon?Should I go to the same breeder? I could use your help again.

There is no set time..do what your heart tells you. If I lost a companion, I would get another as soon as possible. I do not remember how you lost Tyler..if the breeder was reputable, why not? You can never replace a pet, but you can give another Yorkie the love you wanted to give Tyler. I think it is great tribute to a lost companion to get another..some people never want to go through that pain again...but life is full of pain and Yorkies have a way of making us forget what is going on in the world for a few minutes! I am sure Tyler was like most Yorkies and could sense saddest in his humans..he wouldn't want you to grieve for months over him.

i agree with yorky rose....your heart know's best and sound's like you need the love they give us all there is nothing like it

i hope you find a new yorky to love ..... sound's like your little guy would want it for you. good luck

Thank you for your input. Tyler was hit by a car. I am going to take precautions (like a gate) if/when I get another. He was my first Yorkie.

When I lost my Half-Pint, (Yorkie) last spring, I adopted Schatzie by summer. It has not stopped me from thinking of Half-Pint everyday and keep wishing she was with me. But I learned I can give just as much love to another. I am very thankful for Schatzie to share her life with mine!!

I know exactly how torn you're feeling. I lost my 15 year old toy poodle, Daxton on 4/4/04 (my daughter's birthday, unfortunately). I thought I was prepared for having to make that decision because he had a heart condition his last couple years that we had under control with medication but knew that his time would come. My vet assured me that I would know when the right time was but I didn't believe him. He apparently had a stroke that day and I was sure of what we had to do. I know your situation is different but my point is that it was so heartwrenching and I thought the right thing to do was to wait and grieve some before getting a new puppy. I had a talk with a friend that had been in that situation years ago and she convinced me that it was not wrong or bad of me to want another so soon and so I went from there. I started a strong search that week and picked Tatum up two weeks from the day I lost Dax. You can't expect the same feelings for a new pup as you did with a previous one but we love Tatum so much. I've never been a person to put much stock in "depression" but looking back I could see myself slipping and know that in my own personal case, getting a new dog was the right thing to do.

Hope that story wasn't too long-winded but the point is you have to know in your heart what's best for you. Everyone has a different grieving "style" and you just have to figure it out for yourself.

Hi Monyka415! I'm so sorry for your loss. Everyone has given you excellent advice. There's nothing I could add except follow your heart. God blesses us with these precious pups even if it's for a short time. Good luck in your search. And remember, only buy from a reputable breeder. Maybe someone on the forum can help you find one in your area.

I just wanted to say thank you, to all of you. And again I am so glad I found this site. I am going to start looking for a new puppy soon, thats what I feel in my heart to do. I might have found some one on here not to far from me (30 min) or so. I don't know how I found her but I did. All I have to do is call her. But I am still scared. I will know when its time and I will call. Maybe the next time I am asking something, it will be better.
