Default What should I do?

I have a depostit to hold my baby. The breeder originally told me she would be ready to go home at 10 weeks, which would be March 27. It was PERFECT because it's my last day of work and then I have 5 weeks off. The plan was to pick her up after work next Friday. Then I'd have 5 weeks to play with her, train her, get her adjusted before I have to leave her.

But today I emailed the breeder to check up on her and she replied and said since she's 9 weeks old today and doing so well, I could come get her this weekend if I want! There's no pressure, she is fine holding her until next week also, but she doesn't know how she is tempting me!

So the logical part of me thinks wait and follow the orignal plan. Give her another week with her littermates and a solid start to life with me since I'll get to stay with her.

But the emotional part wants my puppy now and can't wait any longer! I know I'll be losing sleep next week and still have to work. I have all the supplies I need except baby gates, but I can go grab some. I would be gone about 8 hours a day Monday through Friday, but my mom would come puppysit for about 4 hours a day. So she'd just be alone 2 hours after I leave and 2 hours before I come home.

What to do? What would you do?

The longer a puppy stays with its mom and litter mates the better off it is, there are alot of breeders that do not release there pups before 12 weeks. Yes it is very tempting to want to go pick up the puppy this weekend, but why not take this week and double check everything at home make sure the house is puppy proofed get down on your hands and knees, check and double check your supplies, get a puppy book to read so you are fully prepared. keep yourself busy all week getting ready for they puppy and give the puppy and extra week of socialization and you will both be happier.

gosh, i would be so tempted to get her NOW as well. but i would have to recommend waiting. i think it would be best for the puppy and for you as well. they do need to be with their moms for as long as possible. (i got milu when she was 20 weeks old, and i never had to get up during the night to let her go potty. she pretty much was able to sleep through the whole night)

if you are still working, it would really suck to have to lose a lot of sleep for your baby's potty breaks. also, they need to eat very frequently when so young, you won't be there to monitor the puppy when you are gone for 8 hours. so it's not really a good idea.

I'd wait! As painful as it is to do so, and as much preparation you have been doing (i've been following your posts, lol ) I would totally wait that extra week to bring her home! Its nice for your mother to offer, but if it were me, id want the pup to get to know me first. Im stingy like that a i guess! Give her that extra loving time with her mom before she has to say goodbye!

That's just me though! Good Luck on your decision, and keep us updated!

I would wait, but, only because I think it's important that she comes home to the house and has you there and doesn't have to be by herself. Just think of it this way, this will give you an extra week of not having to listen to a puppy crying at night. My suggestion is get your sleep this week, cause after next Friday you won"t

Wait. Being with her momma more will benefit her plus if you will not be home you won't want to leave her alone.

Well, you know that it's best if she stays with her Mom as long as possible, but I'm going to be the devil in disguise and say I COULD NOT WAIT!

Yes, I'm impatient! Just being honest

I am going to agree with everyone else. While it is so tempting to take the puppy early, it is not advised to separate a small breed puppy from their mom and litter mates until at least 10 weeks. They are learning so much from mom and brothers and sister and I think you will have a better rounded puppy.
Remember, good things come to those who wait.

I know how exciting it is to bring home a new puppy, and long you have been waiting for this very moment. The ideal time for a yorkie puppy is at 12 weeks old . There are risks of Hypoglcemic attacks in very young puppies. When left alone, they are not monitered, and if the blood sugar drops to low, it can be deadly. Something to keep in mind. THe longer a puppy is with it's mom and littermates the better socialized the puppies are. A very big plus
I'd definately wait as long as you can , no matter how tempted you are to have your baby earlier. At least your going to be home for several weeks when your going to bring home your baby then. Often times what happens is that the first day or so a little puppy is so upset by the new home that it refuses to eat. Therefore, causing problems in blood sugar. The smaller the puppy, the worse the condition is.
I brought my Suzi home going on 9 weeks old. I had no idea about low blood sugar. She got car sick on the way home, vomited all over the place. And refused to eat... I found YT The evening I brought her home, and everyone helped me out.
Luckily, Suzi began eating during the night, and she was already up to 3lbs. AND I stay home all the time do to being disabled.
Anyhow, it is best to wait, and then spend as much times as possible with your precious little puppy as you can. Your little one is going to be very simallar to a little human baby.

You guys are right! Thanks for putting reason back in my head!

When I first got her email this morning my reaction was NO WAY! I was like "Why is she torturing me like this???". But as the day went on I think I talked myself into it.

But coming home and seeing how messy it is right now made me rethink. I need this weekend to puppy proof and give the house a good cleaning. Plus I need my sleep for my last week of teaching. I even have a couple parent conferences next week and it wouldn't be good if I was falling asleep 'cause the puppy cried all night!

I will email her right now and let her know. But I do plan to request more pics...

Yeah, waiting for a new puppy is so hard! And I've already spent the last 2 weeks (and over $300) getting ready for her, so I feel like I can't wait any longer. I am usually so impatient so I'm surprised I'm letting my logical side win.

aww... this is such a sweet post! you are going to be such a good mommy. i am super excited for you! puppies are the best! oh yea, you will want to clean up your house before the puppy arrives at your house! LOL!

it's not the puppy's fault if it decides to chew on your stuff if mommy didn't put it away. everything on the floor not put away is fair game. LOL.

also, you are going to want to take lots of pictures of the puppy, and its embarrassing to post the pix if the background is always a messy room, lol. i have some milu pictures that are cute but i won't share cause the house is such a mess in the background! LOL

Big Hugs to you for waiting!!! I know how hard it is!!! Im waiting on one too! Your pup will so love coming home when you are off work, to dote on her! Those first few weeks go by soooo much smoother if you are home to watch every move they make.
