My rescue dog has biting issue and I am afraid

I am happy to read, farther down in your thread, things are beginning
to look up.
Because Polly is younger she wants to play, Jessica being the older dosen't like being jumped on and deserves respect in dog language.
I am sure in time they will be buds. Buddy dosent' go near any
pup who jumps on him. He stays away. When they get older they
have outgrown that kind of playing.

She's biting because she's terrified. It's beyond unreasonable that a rescue dog of this age was adopted out directly without foster care intervention. I've had three rescue Yorkies and ALL of them had foster homes before coming to live with me where they learn to adapt to life as a pet in a home and not a moneymaker in a cage.

My latest rescue only tried to bite me when I attempted to brush her. When she did, I shouted a firm NO! and she hasn't tried to bite me since. She also had a lot of strange skittish behaviors like hiding on the lower shelf of a table, etc. until she got the idea that this new home was going to be safe like her foster home and not the nightmare her former home was.

I posted a video about her in the Yorkie video threads. In it you can see some of the quirky things she used to do including backing up from me if I approached her. If I picked her up, she'd scream as if in pain but it was just fear.

Charley Bears worked wonders for that - she learned to sit to get a treat. When she'd start to run away from me after that, I'd tell her to sit and give her a treat. Later, I picked her up after sitting and give her a second treat. Now she sits automatically when I go to pick her up - and given how fat she's gotten since coming home, she now only gets a treat every once in awhile when I pick her up. She even asks to be picked up for "lovins" now.

I would actually buy a small muzzle and use it when brushing her or any activity that she may attack. I would also not show her (as much as u can) that you are scared of her because this will reward the behavior.
I believe she is just scared deep down and does not know how else to communicate. Please give her more time and lots of love and treats.
I had a similar problem and he got much, much better. I noticed that when I was ignoring him he would act up much more! Just like a child. So I started petting him more, playing more, more treats and I did use the muzzle and got use to him try to bite me through the muzzle. When he realized that would not work anymore, he stopped. Yes it is hard to not be afraid when he is doing it. But this is fear based behavior.

Ok these are my ideas. I am not an expert! lol. But I loveeeeeee animals.
And I watch Dogtown too many times.

Sounds like things are going REALLY GOOD with Polly!!! But remember it's only been over a week or so since you brought her home...some yorkies it just takes a little bit more time to start liking each other!!

Daizy is more timid and Tulip is my second...she was a wild child...so it did take a couple weeks for them to start playing with each other...and little more for them to start sleeping together!

Jess will come around too....the fact that they are eating together is good....

It's precious to hear that she's playing with her little toys too!!! tearing up her pup's...hehe (loved your comment about her own pups...teehee)

It's so sad to think of where she came....but try not to do that...and be firm when she needs it....loving when she allows it...and you'll both be very happy with this relationship!!

I would be Very careful about any rescue dog you just don't know what is in there past.

It is even funny for me now that I posted this thread a few months ago-))))

I am so proud of Polina's improvement. She is completely different dog now....
Happy (although still get nervous at public places), healthy looking, well mannered NOW dog. Although I went through her biting issue, food agression issue, once she got comfortable at home she became yappy hysterical dog... Not anymore We fixed all her bad manners.

I am just happy with my new girl.

Now I truly believe it depends on people. If you really LOVE your dog and working HARD trying to fix all bad manners, your dog WILL BE changed. Some people just don't try their best, sorry.

For instance, at first, I let my new dog to be free in closet. She liked to be there, and I wanted to be comfortable in her new home. But, as result, she became very territorial and almost attacked my hubby when he came in. She decided this is her the only room. No more closet for her. She became waaay more friendly when she didn't have hew own place to go anymore. She is welcome to be everywhere in house, but we tried to avoid situations when she feels like a boss. This is just small example.

Thanks, this is probably the main reason why I posted it. Because some people are afraid to adopt rescued dogs...
I just loooove my girls and spoil them soo badly..... We hike almost every Saturday, sometimes up to 2 hours one way, and my girls just doing fine. If they are too tired, we have two front packs for them.... Polina prefers to be in, lazy silly girl..... Sometimes I think if she was at home all the time she wouldn't probably change that much....
