We couldn't be more pleased with the little girl we'll be getting in three weeks. She will be well worth the $1500 investment we will be making. What impressed us most (besides knowledge and love of the breed) is the care taken from pre-natal on. We know that our puppy has been well-loved and taken care of before coming to her new home. She's about 7 hours away from us (even though we are in the same state) but after we learned about her, no other breeder was even considered. Warrenshire Yorkshire Terriers |
We bought our AKC male at about 16 weeks old for $475. He is right at 7lbs and we wouldn't trade him for anything! The breeder is a great loving responsible breeder. I wanted to add, he was originally going to be $700, but the breeder found out we had been previously looking for a rescue, but couldn't find a rescue to give to us (because we live in an apartment, and are a young couple who will have kids in a few years) he reduced the price for us. Which was VERY nice of him! |
We paid Cad$700. |
An Expensive Apple Wow, after reading all these posts, it seems I paid more than the average person...I did buy Apple from a breeder, but found out at the "viewing" they are really "brokers"...So it seems, these people did breed yorkies for many many years, but now go to reputable breeders and get only clean/healthy puppies...My "Apple" was $1250, which now seems high, but she is extremely healthy, hearty, and nicely proportioned...I'm not going to show her; I just liked her spunk, personality and her sweet face...They did have puppies less expensive, I just happened to like her...If anyone wants to see where I got her, it's fancypups.com ....They don't ship puppies, and are just outside Houston, Texas...I only had to drive, from my house, about 20 or 25 minutes to their place...Even if she was overpriced, I don't regret it for one minute...I love her to pieces!!! |
What you pay for your yorkie is very much contigent on the region in which you live. Both coasts a bit higher than central states. AKC breeders does not mean you're getting a healthy dog that is a good representation of the breed, or that the breeder knows what they are doing. Much more figures into the breeding correctly and responsibly. I always tell my potential new families that you buy your breeder first before you buy your dog. You're buying a relationship and that relationship should continue long after you leave your breeders home with your new family member. Your breeder should be available to you 7x24 for the rest of that new puppy's life. |
$550 for Jackson. I don't think she was a "professional breeder" but it had happened by accident. Even so, she cared very much for the puppies in her home and they slept by her bed every night with their mom. When I picked Jackson up, she gave me his medical records (his first shots, vet visit and deworming), a little booklet on how to care for Yorkies, a little baggie full of his dry food and gave me instructions on how to mix it with water, etc. So, even though it was an accident, she did it very professionally so I was very surprised. During the e-mailing stages, I asked her a bunch of questions and she answered them all. She was honest, in saying it was purely by accident and she thought the dog she purchsed had been neuatrerd. He was also originally listed for $700, I believe, but because the economy is so tough, she lowered the prices and just wanted them to go to good homes. |
Someone I know gave me my first Yorkie, they got her from the pound, some lady had to give her up because she couldn't take care of her any longer. She is such a good pup. My second baby I paid 700.00, she is beautiful and we did a fine job of spoiling her. I paid 400.00 for my boy and i feel like I rescued him because he was older and all he was used to was a 4 by 6 gated area in the house that was where her Yorkies lived. He is a very good boy, but I will not recommend her and I would not by another one from her because she is just not a good breeder.:( |
Also not sure if someone mentioned this....probably did...but "where" you live will have ALOT to do with How much you pay as well.... Like here in Montana...yorkie breeders are not prevalant...so they cost ALOT more...I got my babies out of state...And I payed about 500.00 for each of them! Both are registered.. So just shop around and ask ALOT of questions!!! $2,000 sounds like ALOT ...I'd shop around! |

I paid 350.00 for my Quincy. No Papers but love just the same I also get alot of compliments from other Yorkie owners. Who knows maybe they are just being nice. I think he is beautiful. |
we got our girl and our boy for around 700 a peice. We keep in contact with both breeders and are very satisfied with our kids. we took a risk living in california and having the dogs sent on an airline from arkansas but both times it worked out from two different breeders. The prices in calfornia were just way too much. I am really glad our story has ended happily. However, buying locally in most cases is the best thing to do. Your individual situation will dictate. In most cases if the price seems to high you may want to look much closer into why the pups cost alot. some of the time it will be because the pup is from a champion blood line or it could also be a greedy puppy mill trying to scam people out of their money. :) |
My boyfriend got our yorkie from a private breeder for $1600. |

I gave $600.00 for my molly. There isn`t enough money now to buy her back. I take her to see her mom an dad ever once in awhile. They run around the house an sleep by the breeders bed. My friend has her half sister an i think her yorkie isn`t as nervous as molly because she is with 6 other yorkies. I think if i had it do all over again i would buy 2 instead of 1. I think they do better in bunches. Molly not bad but there is a differnce. Thinking about buying another one so molly will have a friend. Good luck on picking out your baby. Be picky. |
I paid US$1000 for my little guy, which came out to a little more in CAD funds. Luckily though, the exchange rate wasn't too bad at the time. I also noticed that the price of Yorkies have gone down recently (most likely due to the economy). I think if I were to buy one right now, it'd try to look for one under $1000. |
I paid 750 for my female pup. I agree with the other posters. Be careful to work with a reputable breeder. I probably annoyed my breeder with fifty million questions, but I wanted to make sure I knew it was a good situation. |
$2000 is quite a high price, but if you are purchasing from a very reputable breeder with excellent quality stock, it will be worth it. Just becuase the dog is priced at 2000 doesn't mean it's a well-bred dog. Neither does it mean a reputable breeder. I've seen BYBs price their dogs higher. However, dogs that are well-bred from good bloodlines may be priced that high...but not always. AKC papers don't guarantee anything of quality...they only prove it purebred. even puppymills sell AKC registered dogs. |

I have been Showing and Breeding in my home for years. I agree a good home breeder is the best way to go when buying a pup. Never a pet shop. Kathy |
My first post - and it's about how much I spent! We just got our little girl Sadie in December. Our 15 year old Shih Tzu died in October. A week before she died we spent about $1,500 trying to save her knowing that it probably wasn't going to buy her much time. When we started looking for a Yorkie, I found a very good breeder that I wanted to use in Atlanta (about 4 hours away). Her females ranged from about $1,200 to $1,800 for a limited registration. Of course, the one that chose me was the $1,800 one. The "purchase" price is insignificant to me compared to the next 15 years of care and love we give each other. My husband kind of choked but he's really very good to me. :) I asked him recently if she was worth the money and he said she was easily worth ten times what we spent. |
I got my female from a breeder and paid 300. |

I paid $550.00 for Carlie from a reputable kennel here in Iowa. If I had bought her at 12 weeks (that is when this kennel will first let them go to their new home) she would have been $800.00. One of the good things about her age was we knew or had a good idea how big she would be (4lbs). Good luck :aimeeyork |
my grandmother can get a yorkie for $800 from a breeder in myrtle beach, sc. but i think that is a discounted price for her since they are long time friends. |
1200 but my bf got her for 1000 cause she was 3 months old already |
the rest of the money i bought her tons of toys and clothes lol |
I paid $2000 for Zoe but her dad is a champion so I think that makes a difference. |
I just purchased a yorkie and paid $2000.00. She is worth it. The breeder did a complete blood panel on all her babies and she has a 1 yr. health guarantee. She was 15 wks old and very healthy. Health is the utmost importance! Ask questions. Enjoy. |
As with any animal theres always the chance of problems and the price you pay won't change those a bit. You look until you find the one that steals your heart and that you feel very comfortable with the owner. I paid $1200 for my chocolate female, that included having her shipped to me, i couldn't have asked for a better girl! |
Chance was 800. You could also rescue. |
