				   | So, she is 10 weeks old and went in yesterday for her second round of shots. Thanks to YT, I asked them to hold off on the Lepto and rabies until she is a little older. Lepto is water-borne, according to the vet, and although the tap water in Cape Town is world class, unfortunately some of the other water sources are not so good...this IS Africa, after all (4000 dead of cholera in Zimbabwe, a neighbouring country). So she will get the Lepto vaccine, but for now she is still on bottled water and I carry a bottle of it wherever we go. The big shocker, however, was when the vet put her on the scale. 1.44 kg...3lbs 3 oz. My word! She is only 10 weeks old! She's gained 600 grams (more than a pound) in 4 weeks! Reserve a spot in the Teapot Club for this one! An interesting aside: I was speaking with the vet tech regarding dosages and she brought in the dosage guide from the manufacturer and noted that the recommended dosage of the rabies vaccine was the same for Puddin' as it is for a horse!! She had no idea why. I am wondering if there is simply a critical mass of vaccine material necessary to stimulate antibody production in any being or if there is some other reason that a 3 lb yorkie gets the same amount of vaccine as an 1100 lb horse? More pics of Puddin'.

| Senior Yorkie Talker | the whole rabies shot thing baffles me too!! why such a huge dosage? doesnt make sense. Bentley is supposed to get his tomorrow but he just barely weighs 3 lbs and is 5 months old....im sure there is a reason for the same dosage, but seems like the vets dont even know why!

				   | Puddin is soooo precious! I love the puppy pics! I miss my boys as pups like that! Wish I knew more about the vacs and the amounts to help you out. It does seem odd to give a 3lb dog the same amount as an 1100lb horse... My boys were 2.2lbs at 12 weeks and in the end after all the growth spurts, they ended up one at 9lbs and one at 5.5lbs... so you just don't know what you'll end up with!
