Is it the same person providing dogs/puppies at both these auctions? Or does anyone know?

I don't think it's the same person for both sales.

I would like OKYT to answer this question. Those puppies (Biewers) that you went in and supposedly rescued...were they spayed/neutered? I truly hope you can answer this in the affirmative!

Obie.. if the rescue itself doesn't answer. Bonbon is the one that adopted Talon. Maybe it can be answered through her.

This is my problem with this whole thread and others now. I donate thousands a year to rescues, I am now thinking I need to check into my rescue here that I give most of my donations too. How will I know its going to the purpose that I think its going too, for rescuing dogs. I have called today and I am waiting for someone to call me back, but this really makes me fearful to give to any rescue anymore, and its just hurting these poor animals that need our help. I worry about the older dogs that really need to be rescued, I am sorry but the puppies have a better chance of someone getting them than the others. I want my money to a rescue that is going to feed, love and not crate all time and really try to find them homes. Are not all the dogs worth saving? I am truly sadden and upset over this. Its not hurting anyone on here, its hurting those precious babies that need our help.:(

I just read through the thread, and yes, they were neutered. Also, after reading through that thread and seeing those pictures, they did need to be rescued. I am just saddened they couldn't get the female. :(

One way to help in these situations is to try and find out who the broker is. There are ways of dealing with those people and the people who are purchasing them by making them known public. It doesn't totally stop them, but it sure makes them angry.

My sentiments exactly! We feed them, love them, teach them to trust the human hand again and find them loving forever homes.

Absolutely! All of our rescues are spay/neutered!!!!

Yes, Jordy (Talon) was neutered before he was offered for adoption. OKYR also had his ear infection treated and Zeus' foot operated on. They both really needed to gain weight (which Jordy had, thanks to his foster mom).

I am not familiar with puppy mills and auctions (but I'm learning :(). I would really like to know how/why such a sweet, cute little dog wound up in an auction in this condition at only 1.5 years old?

This is also what I was afraid would happen with this thread~it gives all rescues a bad name. :( There have been many very generous members that have donated to YHR recently which I am very grateful. This is one of the reasons that I want to make sure everyone knows how the foster that I have now is being taken care of~I can tell you were every penny of his donations from members have gone to. But there have been a LOT of threads about other rescues that have not been totally on the up and up. Dogs being rehomed without being spayed/neutered and becoming pregnant have been very concerning for me recently. There have been at least 4 different members that have said that they were told that their female was spayed and either had puppies or got pregnant with puppies. How is this happening? :confused:

I have been accused of being too questioning when someone comes along with a "rescue" that I have never heard of before but I want to make sure they are legitimate and honest in their intentions. With the economy suffering, people losing their jobs and homes legitimate rescues need to be there to pick up the pieces~which is not possible without generous donations to help. What is going to happen to all of the dogs that are dropped at the shelters from the backlash of the economy if the donations run dry because of rescues not acting responsibly with their donations. :(

The Haven just got a little guy last week named Ozzy. We had him at the orthopedist yesterday and needs a hip replacement which will be done next week and will cost about $3,000. He's been used by a BYB and was taken in from a kill shelter. The vet said that he has been this way his entire life, in pain and suffering with a bad hip reproducing with the defect for with BYBer. Now he is safe and will be taken care of properly. But what if the donations dry up~he would have stayed in the shelter to die. I'm sorry that I just hijacked this thread. But this is very upsetting to me because of all the dogs that are in shelters that need to be helped and rescues buying dogs from mills putting money into their pockets.

JenCar98, is $50 really the average price for a dog at an auction? I ask because that seems pretty low, so if that's what the seller expects on average, he doesn't need much to make a profit. This just underlines that the argument "we're not giving millers much money" does not hold water.

This has been a very sad thread, but isn't it better to know what's really going on? Knowledge shouldn't make you give up. Now we all know we have to be smarter and more careful about who our donation are really going to.

I don't think this thread gives rescues a bad name. I think the reprehensible actions of some rescues gives rescues a bad name. Personally I am GREATFUL that people had the courage to come forward and tell us what is going on. Knowledge is power.

I have come to the conclusion that with rescues you just can't take things at face value - you have to delve deeper to determine exactly purpose your hard earned $$ is beng spent to support. That way if you disagree with the philosophy of the rescue then you can use to place your $$ elsewhere.

The point of a rescue should be to save the dogs that really need saving, not to save dogs that are "adoptable" at the expense of those who are not. As far as auctions go, we cannot possible know for a fact that all of the dogs sold at auction go to a bad environment. I have only attended one auction where dogs were sold -- many years ago -- I attended an exotic animal sale where there were dogs -- but I personally witnessed the cute dogs and the dogs with papers being handed over to women with open arms and the older sickly ugly ones being unsold and overlooked. It seems more reasonable to wait until an auction is over and negotiate for the purchase of dogs that are not sold. That way you are taking care of the truly needy.

From what I've learned, I'm not sure I approve of rescues going to auctions at ALL, but if they are going, this sounds like the right way to do it.
