Akc registered puppy in pet store. Is that ok?
 
I was just in the pet store and they had yorkies that was AKC registered. I was wondering if these were ok to buy. I don't think the AKC would support them if they were from a bad puppy mill.

All it takes to be AKC registered is to file the paperwork and pay your fee. You'll find that most puppies for sale in pet stores are AKC registered. Doesn't mean they didn't come from a puppy mill. Chances are, they did.

Don't be fooled by the AKC registration. They are from a puppy mill or BYB, that doesn't care where their babies end up and most likely don't do any testing on their breeding stock.

No, a dog from a volume breeder is just a place popping out puppies for profits. :eek: No puppy is a product even if they have an AKC registration. I personally think AKC should be ashamed of themselves for endorsing volume breeders who only care about $$$$.

Never buy an animal from a petshop:thumbdown

Also someone was telling me that it's only some puppy mills that are bad. Not all. Is this true

In my opinion, they're all horrid places and no dog should ever be subjected to that sort of treatment.

A point that is often made over and over and really hits home for me is...What reputable breeder would sell one of their pups to a petstore not knowing what kind of a home it will end up in? Any decent breeder screens their buyers to make sure that their pups are only going to a good home. Someone who has shipped their puppies off to a petstore DOESN'T care.

Yes but the lady told me that if in five years the dog gets sick they will pay for all the vet bills and if it dies they will replace it with a new puppy

It is not true. They are just producing puppies for money. That is their goal, and they do not care what it takes to keep the money comming in. Their poor dogs never get attention or taken to the vet, they are just used and used and used till they can't produce any longer. Some BYB love their animals and are only guilty of not knowing better. But it is still risky to buy from them. I have first hand experience with BYBing, my parents were BYBers, they took good care of their dogs with well check visits and quality food, but were un educated when it came to screening for genetic defects.

So you aren't concerned about the heartache you will feel when your puppy dies just because you will get a new one? And my pug dogs MAJOR vet bills for treating her health problems have only started at age 6. Sometimes it takes yrs for issues to surface.

That deal sounds WAY too good to be true. I'd love to see the contract.

Go to youtube.com and type in "Oprah puppy mills." Oprah did a special on puppy mills and I think you will quickly change your mind.

If a dog is raised in a large volume establishment (in a small cage) they will not have had much human touch nor would they be socialized correctly. I especially am against these types of places for companion animals like our Yorkies.:thumbdown

I believe the only reason they offer that type of guarantee is because it is part of their Puppy lemon law. And, their is so much that may be wrong with that puppy. Are you willing to put yourself thru the heartache of watching that puppy suffer. And if it does go to the Rainbow Bridge, are you really going to want to do this all over again with another puppy from them?

And I'm sorry if I'm coming off as harsh...this is just something that I feel quite strongly about.

I do have to say that I think it's GREAT that you came here to research before actually buying this puppy. :thumbup:
