So we brought Orion home for over a month. He's now 5 months old. In any case, I noticed that big sister Cassi (she's a little over 1 yrs old) loves licking him. The licking part is not the weird thing...it's where she likes to lick him. She loves licking him in the mouth...I mean she literally sticks her tongue in his mouth and licks his teeth, gums, etc. She could do this for 5 minutes straight w/out stopping and would go longer if I don't move her. I could tell he get's a little annoyed sometimes b/c he starts turning away from her and hides his face in my lap. I mentioned this to one of my friend and she said that was strange. So as I'm typing this right now, she's licking him and I just told her to stop. Just wondering if anyone furbabies does this also.

Gracie Ruth (1yr) & Yogie (6months) lick each other and Boo (6yrs) like that. Boo does not lick back and only will allow so much of it before he puts a stop to it. I wonder if it's mostly a puppy thing? It does seem that they do it mostly after one of them has been at the food or water dish. I'll be interested to see what others have to say.

I fed them this morning around 7am and then gave them both a bully stick around 11ish. But, I've noticed that she does this all the time when they are both on my lap, regardless of the hours or feeding time.

Omg, that sounds so dang cute

, seriously. Well, I wonder if she is feeling "maternal", even if she is spayed? Is he teething? I wonder if she can sense/smell this and she is trying to "help" in some way...I just don't know! It could be just affection, but you'd think she'd expand her licking region if it was just that.

Well he is teething right now. I see two small little adult teeth that just broke skin. Maybe she likes his stinky/smelly breath. She also has a tendency of sniffing my belly button too (which I'm pretty neurotic about cleaning everyday)!!! Ugggh...sounds gross, right?

I have bred dachshunds for years and all the new puppies do that to the adults they lick right in their mouths...drives me crazy and the adult dogs too. I think its a puppy thing they normaly outgrow it as they get older.

My widget does this to my KC cavalier all the time. I aways figured he liked the smell of her dog food bether than his own? The KC just takes so much of it then he lets Widget know he has had enough. He licks all over the inside of the KC's lips. I thought he was trying to show he was submissive and didn't want to be perceived as the dominate one?

Well listen, Ev, my Marcel is OBSESSED with nostrils...it's insane. Let it suffice to say that me and hubby probably have the cleanest noses around (gross, I know).....

And you probably remember that thread about yorkies who steal/kidnap underwear? Yeah. Nice. That was a funny thread. I guess they just like body smells.

Rory (1.5 years) does this. She does it to any dog that will let her. It's pretty funny to watch her clean the teeth of my sister's Old English Sheepdog. I think she does it to several dogs at doggie daycare too. She'll walk up to her "favorites" and give them a kiss on the nose if she can't get in a good cleaning. I don't know what it means though...we always joke she'll be a dental hygienist when she grows up.

Little booger snatcher that she is! I told her it wasn't very lady like, but I don't think she cares. We rescued her just before Christmas 2008 from a puppymill bust, and my boyfriend jokes she is repaying us this way - we'll never have to buy tissues again! EEE!

Cassi also loves to lick nose as well...but not as much as licking Ori's mouth. I'm going to see if I can try to take a video of it. So far, she only licks Ori's mouth....b/c he's the only dog that she's not timid of.

Well Cassi (who is a little of 1 yrs old) is doing the licking to poor little baby Ori (he's 5 months old). He can just tolerate so much licking.
