I knew Yorkies were smart, but WOW!! Here's the story... We live in central Texas and have been having some crazy extremes in temperature. During the day it can get up to 80 and then drop to the 20s or 30s at night. Really nuts, right? Well, our youngest yorkie, Kandi, is VERY cold sensitive. She will often sleep by the heating vent to stay warm. Well, this morning, we woke up to a freezing, cold house because we had forgotten to switch the system from cool to heat. While we were shivering and making coffee, turning on the heat, etc... Kandi comes in the kitchen pulling a piece of fabric. It was her flannel nightie!! She had to go into the closet and into a box of her clothes and find that particular nightie (no other clothes were taken out of the box). We're still amazed! Needless to say, we put her nightie on her and warmed up a heating pad for her. :p ***** What's your story? How smart is your yorkie? |
Mine is dumb as a box of rocks. She lives on her cuteness. She likes to sleep in my husbands dirty PT's(physical training clothes for the non-military folks) and socks. It is okay my Jack makes up for her in intelligence. It is CREEPY how smart those dogs are. |
OMG! how cute is that!!!! she just wanted to be warm! aww!:D |
WOW! Smart & cute. |
How smart is she? What a sweetheart! We call my little female, police-dog. Whenever the baby(11 week old) is getting into trouble, she immediately alerts us by her police bark, that someone is doing something illegal! She cracks us up. No one is allowed to go outside the rules with her around! |

Wow, that is sooo cool!! I love stories like this that validate what we all know :thumbup::):) |
What a great story Judy! Well, Bubba knows where the carrots are - and he will get up every evening like clock work from the couch & bark & go stand in front of the fridge for his carrot. When he's cold & I've go a blanket on me, he will scratch my arm to say lift up the blanket, so I can get under. Roxy she is a professional squirrel hunter - she doesn't just see a squirrel & chase after it. She will sit in the backyard & just study the squirrels, trying to figure out how they move, how they think - she thinks if she knows them well enough she can catch one  Roxy can be under the blanket asleep & the very soft-footed Siamese can walk into the room on carpet and be 5 feet away from the couch & Roxy will wake up & growl at her to stay away :( But not sure either of mine owuld ever go pick out their own clothes! Although Roxy can take them off all be herself ;) |
Oh my goodness! Your Kandi is so stinkin' smart! Zoe isn't the most brilliant, but shhhhhhhhh don't tell her I said that! :p She's incredibly sweet but she's had a pretty bad stupid streak lately. She'll be asleep on one side of the couch and I'll be on the other, if I get up to reach to grab my cup off the coffee table she'll dart up and start BARKING! We love them no matter what but seriously, I'd have to love Kandi with that insane smarts of hers! |

Well my Tiki mostly does amazing tricks. She dances, she will roll over each direction - depending on which direction I tell her, she sits up so pretty and stays there. If I don't get her her treat soon enough she will reach out her precious little paw and rest it on my fingers as I give her the treat. She shakes hands, both paws. She gives kisses on command. she runs to find her daddy and give him a kiss, then runs back for her treat, Her last little trick sometimes frightens me - she does it so well. I point my finger at her and say "Bang". She crumples to the floor and ends up totally still on her side. Once in a while she whimpers while she is falling. Advancing the trick,, I reach out and rub her little body and say, "poor little Tiki, she;s asll dead, then move my hand. she stays perfectly still - until I say "good girl" and she flips up and sits so nicely to get her treat. My girlfriend has her brother and we have taught him the same tricks. It is wquite funny to have them do them at the same time. Tiki dances clockwise and Buddy dances counter clockwise. When they finish the "dead" action, they both get up exactly the same way. It is too funny. We laugh at them a lot and often say" I wonder if we are nuts because we loe these dogs so much, maybe too much".. I was so happy to tell her that ALL Yorkie owners are the same way!!! This brother and sister are just like kid brothers sand sisters. They both want the same toy at the same time. They will chase each other to try and get the toy until they both have one end of it and then they play tug of war. In the summer she brings Buddy to my place as we have a huge totally fenced and safe back yard. We sit under the canopy while the dogs play. buddy loves to run so he runs around and around. We have a shed in the back yard and he tears around it. When he first started doing it, tiki would follow him, but he is much faster than she is (He has $4,000.00 bionic rear legs). She got wise and once he started running around, she would just lay down in the shade and wait for him to come around, then she would jump on him. More laughs here. I always tell her, Tiki is a girl. They are the smart ones! Oh how I love these two pups. Myrna, aka - Tiki's Mom |
