| Tips PLEASE Hi Everyone, I am having the most IMPOSSIBLE time trying to clip Sadies nails. She is ridiculous. The last time I tried, I had to go back to the breeder for help because she squirms and bites and freaks out. So the breeder was successful (after about 30 minutes of Sadie freaking out, she FINALLY let her do it). I've been trying the past week now to clip them again and she turns completly psychotic. She bites me, scratches me, squirms, tries to jump off my lap, bangs her head on me, growls, its ridiculous. Even if I pin her down she still manages to get her paw away from me and I'm scared that I'll hurt her if I hold her down any stronger, or she'll hurt herself from the way she throws herself around and tries to get away. She almost made me want to cry today because she is SO impossible when it comes to clipping her nails, and yet so good with everything else. I've always done my cat and my rabbits, but this just isnt working. and its making me VERY frustrated. ANY tips at all would be awesome. Thanks guys

| I tried to do Harley's while he was asleep. Even sleeping he kept jerking his paw away. I don't know what it is about cutting his nails, it just makes me a nervous wreck to think about doing it. I ended up taking him to the groomers and when they brought him out to me he was so scared and she said they made a few of them bleed. I was mad when I left cause I kept thinking "Geez, I could have made him bleed at home for FREE!"

| Good idea, also you can let her run around on concrete for a little while each day, it will shorten her nails! kinda like filing them

I've tried all of this I just gave up and take Mollie to Petsmart and they do it there for $8. It's better than fighting her.

I took Dub to Petco, and they made one nail bleed, but after weeks of massaging his little toes I hadn't had ANY luck at all so figured I'd just have to trust in them. (They've always been really good with my other dogs, but Dublin is WAY more willfull!!) BTW here its $12 but they will get the ear hair at the same time if needed. I figure that to be about $2 an extremity or about a quarter a squirm.....

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | When we want to do their nails - THEY Are Cujo - We are mice. I've tried lots of things. Tried the Groomer (don't go anymore) Tried the Vet (he made Chanel bleed) Tried to do it in the bathtub (yeah right - I got soaked - not one nail got cut) Tried to cut them myself (they win - I lose) The best solution for ME was wrapping them up in a big towel...sometimes making a hoodie like cover for their heads - I take a paw & clip a nail as fast as I can....THEN give them a kiss - Same procedure till I get one foot done. This can take up to 10 minutes. IF they are REALLY squirmy - I do what I can and start fresh later or the next day. If all above fails - I use an rough Emery board....You just have to keep at it because it's a necessity. |

| Gucci turns into Cujo also when we tried to cut her nails. My sons holds her, well tries, but she squirms so much. I have tried when she asleep but she always wakes up. I have wrapped her on a towel and she always get loose. So I have being figthing her, cut a nail. Try the next. Wait a while and try again. Sometimes I take a week to clip her nails. I feel so bad cause she moves so much that I have make her bleed a couple of times. When that happens I stop and try again the next day hoping she will not fight me. But that is only a dream. Im going to try to file her nails, maybe is easier on her. Good luck cutting Sadies nails. Hopefully you will have better luck than me. |

I just cut my two PLUS four puppies for the very first time! I've put it off and put it off cause I've always been afraid I'd make them bleed, but with such a big crowd now I can't afford to pay someone to do six at one time....so I ventured to do it myself. Out of 24 paws.....I only cut too far on three I have been soooooo fearful of it but it really wasn't that bad. We had that quik stop bleed stuff and it worked great. After the initial ouchy they didn't act like it hurt at all. Now that I know I can do it, it isn't so bad. Took me less than thirty mintues to do everyone!

| Dogs in general seem to be "very protective of their feet". Maybe at a mellow time of the day when you give Sadie hugs and kisses, gently caress her feet and offer treats/praise. Do this off and on for days on end. As this continues get more agressive in her "foot massage and work your fingers inbetween her toes. After awhile Sadie might not be so "sensitive" or think twice about it. Continuing her "foot massage" and then working your way into touching her nails, pulling gently on her feet, etc might make it not a big deal to her anymore. Good luck and don't remember the hugs and praise. Not to mention a lady not liking a good foot massage.
