It has to be the right size, not just the file limits, but the physical size, as well. If it's bigger, Yorkietalk automatically resizes it and it loses the "moving" aspect. If you are a non-donating member the largest side can be no more than 75 pixels, and the "overall file limit" size can be no more than 20 kb. So there's two measurements you have to look at. If your avatar is within both these limits, you can upload it to this thread and I'll take a look at it for you. I use PSP too, and you can do lots of unique things with their animation program.

:animal-paYa Know....Using my PSP for years is one of my "pride and joys". When I first learned to use it, I was apart of a group who made what they refer to as "Sigs..or (Signatures). Working and being a mom, I had to drop out of it, so it's been awhile since I "played around with it..so to speak..lol"

Anyway..Upon learning the tricks of the trade, my LOVE was making animations. But what I couldn't figure out was why others weren't so crazy about them. Well, it was "THE FILE SIZES" of them. I enjoy the quills and boy can't they get up there in size. 1-2-3 mbs!! Yep, you were right. I see that I am truley not allowed to use the sizes that I want. I had to really work hard at "shrinking" my pictures and playing around in animation shop. These turned out to be some very SMALL size pictures. I'd hope they could be seen by people who "don't" wear glasses! LOL

Again..Thank you so much for your help and advice. Now in spare time, I will try making alot of things, (just remembering the file size limit) and play around further!:cool::animal-pa

I made my avatar in animation shop, you can even open a movie file with it, but getting it into a file size that YorkieTalk will accept is a real challenge. Animation shop has the "optimization" feature, and that comes in really handy for shrinking the file size without losing too much quality. I hate to admit it, but one of the main reasons I became a donating member was you can have bigger avatars!

Thanks for all the warm welcomes! I have Princess Bella Da Mia who is no longer the little pup in the pic but now 18 months old and most definately my baby!

You need a program that can make animations; I don't think photoshop or powerpoint can do that. I have Paint shop pro, and it comes with an animation program, and there is also a free one available from Photoscape. You can open the avatar you have with Photoscape, and add or subtract pictures to it. Photoshop allows you to edit pictures, but you need something like photoscape to put several pictures into one file, called a gif file. :confused:everytime i try to post a pretty graphic comment to a friends page it just shows up with the written code? am i doing something wrong or do you have to use a special code besides the url .do you need to upload it somewhere instead of taking it off a site? and can you use any site like the myspace graphic s? going crazy here.

That's a cute avatar, but it in much too big of a file to use here. There are two sizes you have to match first is the pixel size, how big is the picture in physical space. Your is perfect, and it's 75x75. The other size you must meet is KB, that translates roughly to how many pictures are in the file times its physical dimensions. You have 42 different frames in your avatar and your overall file size is 81.1 KB, and you are allowed no more than 20 KB. So you just have too many pictures. The special effects you have in your pictures with the pink frames added too many frames. When an avatar is over size limits, it is resized, and loses the moving capabilities. They are strict on this and just one tenth of a KB over, and it won't work.

How to Search YT???
 
I cannot figure out how to search the site...I finally started to use the Google search at the very bottom & just click on Yorkietalk.com...but I can't figure out what types of searches there are. For example, if someone says to go to a forum on a topic, how do you find it? I was also trying to search for "rollerblading" since I want to start rollerblading w/my yorkies & wanted to see if anyone had some tips on how to start. I got no hits in the thread or posts search, but when I did the google search I got some matches. Is there an easier way? Any help or guidance you can give me on how to search the site is appreciated - thanks!

At the top of the page on the left hand side you will see the words, Yorkietalk.com -yorkshire terrier community. Click on this and you will see what I call the index page, it gives all the different forums. Read through the list, and you will probably find a forum where your question is best answered. I actually do a search like you do, and I find the google feature using Yorkie talk very efficient. You can also click on the search button at the top of the page, and choose "advanced" this is particular feature is useful when trying to find a thread you have read before, and can remember a few names, because you can even use a member's name included on the search. Just practice, and you'll get better, only downside of using the YT search is that you have to wait 30 seconds between searches. Google doesn't make you wait.

Thank you for the warm welcome! Yorkie owners must be very kindhearted, because everyone has been so nice. My only question is... how can I find a reputable Yorkie breeder in my area? I've looked on the AKC website and contacted several people, but no one is in my area. I live near Fresno, CA, and really want to buy from someone in my area so I can see where they live and visit the mom and dad. I have also been on the Yorkshire Club of America (I think that's what it is) site and have struck out there also. I just want to do it right and be patient to make sure I purchase a healthy puppy, and I don't want to support any type of puppymill. If you, or anyone else, knows of someone in my area, I would appreciate any information. There are several Yorkie puppies listed in my area, but I would rather buy from someone who has dealt with the breeder before, so I know exactly what I am purchasing. Thank you for your help!

First let me say, I really love the fact you have been doing your homework, and reallize how important it is to see the home, and actually look at the mother and father. I always recommend the YTCA, as a starting place, you say you struck out, but what happened? First I emailed, and then I called and called and we talked many times before she agreed to see me, she was busy, and I was willing to wait for a really good breeder. Sometimes if a good breeder know you are persistent they begin to understand that this isn't just an impulse thing and you are really serious and not just a looky loo. Another suggestion is to go to some shows, and meet some of the breeders in person. Sometimes you have to go on a waiting list, but I believe it worth the wait.

I guess I meant I struck out, because I have not found a breeder around where I live. I don't want to get impatient and make a bad choice, so I am going to continue to be patient and keep researching. Thank you for the advice about the local dog shows. I will look into that.

Here's a link to the California members. Yorkshire Terrier Club of America About The Club. I would try calling several, and asking about their breeding programs. Even if they don't have any available, they often know someone. If you've had dogs before, that's a plus, they want to find good homes or their dogs, and showing them that you can offer a good home is the first step. So while you are interviewing them, they will be interviewing you. I'm sure they would be glad to tell you about shows close to you.

I have tried to read though all the threads to get a picture to come up when I post a message or reply. I dont want it to be animated just one nice picture. Can you help me with this? I can get this to work!:confused:

Yes, it is called an avatar. Click on the "User CP" link on the blue bar to the lefthand side. Then click on "Edit Avatar" and here is where you can upload your image. It can be animated, or just a standard image. Just be sure to watch the file size limiations (it says underneath where you upload it what the limitations are)
