| ![]() Off topic-- It's funny how I don't realize how small Tokes is! He's 5.3 pounds and I think he's very stirdy and self sufficient. Another tiny dog came in while Tokes was waiting in the car with my sister, and I was for sure this dog was way smaller than Tokes. He looked like a yorkie but was tannish/golden all over. The owner weighed him and he was 5.6 pounds. That's not much of a difference in weight, but the other dog looked so tiny and fragile to me! A lot of times people will ask me if Tokes is a teacup -- even people who work at his dog sitting place (you would think they would know about teacups not existing)! I always say nope, that's the average size of a yorkie! I'm going to miss him like crazy! I've done this before and the lady who had him just wasn't a good match for him...I took him back not realizing it's still isn't the right time for me to have a dog. I'm glad he's not with her anymore. I hope he'll be so happy in Cali with his new siblings. |

| ![]() Health certificates for travel seem to cost anywhere from $15-25. There's also a time limit on how long it's good for. It was something like 7-10 days. I can't remember which now. Vet visits tend to cost anywhere from $20-80 here from my experience. Some vets (maybe it's just the "low cost" ones) don't charge for the office visit if you had something else done like a fecal exam and rabies shot would qualify. |

| ![]() Oh that's awful! I agree the costs seem pretty steep. I've NEVER had to pay for a health certificate for flying either. Just the exam which is between $20-30.. I didn't know about the rabies shots either.. I wonder what the law in GA is?

| ![]() Doing 3 year vaccines where permitted and regular fecal exams is good medicine. Some of their fees do seem kind of high-- that bordatella vaccine and fecal exam each cost you $15 more than what I've seen other clinics charge. The office visit+health certificate probably isn't unreasonable since both the fees are lumped together, and health certificates do take time to fill out. Depending on the type of certificate, some even require the vet to pay filing fees... There's so many vets out there that there's really no reason to stick with someone you aren't happy with. But I'd also be wary about just looking for the place that charges the least. Some places charge less because they are cutting corners, and to be honest, it is better for the health of the animal if the vet pursues regular fecal exams, and if the vet always gives 3 year vaccines.
