| Question of the Night Maxwell is tearing up another stuffed toy. This is fourth one that he has torn up. Is it because he wants attention~? The first two he tore up, that I bought when I got him. Then one I got for his birthday is about tore up, and now a little bear is on the way getting torn up (neighbor gave it to him when we visited for the day during our snow storm) Also he's ringing the bell (constantly) that I have hanging from the door. Sounds like he is needing attention, doesn't it~? |

| Tearing up stuffed animals Sounds like a normal Yorkie to me. If he tears up stuffed animals, try to see if he might rather play with a tennis ball. My dog is 8 mo. old and approx. 6 pounds, but he loves a regular size tennis ball and wants us to throw if for him all the time. I also get him bully sticks to chew on. We had a dog that always tore up his stuffies, so we just quite giving them to him. He also liked tennis balls. |

He never tore up anything before, until now. Tennis balls don't count, but he has tore them up when we play. I don't want him to tear them up when we play, but he does. I have bones for him and now he's chewing on that. What is a bully stick~? Is it "Rawhide"~? I don't give that to him.

| Sydney will tear apart any toy given to her and rip the stuffing right out of it. She just enjoys doing it I now give her the flat rabbit / fox /squirrel type toys at Petsmart that have no stuffing she loves those. And since there is no stuffing, she doesn't destroy them.

| The minute I give Daisy Mae a new stuffed toy, she goes for it and within 15 mins, the stuffing is all over the carpet! It's just what they do I guess. Sounds normal to me, not bad behavior. ~Kathy

| Prada has been tearing up her lamb toy a lot this week too! And she's been caught trying to chew up a pillow in the living room, we just calmly take the pillow from her and say "ah ah." That's the best I've got! Good luck.

| Teddy chews up paper, only paper.. toilet paper, receipt paper, cardboard anything paper he loves it.. except my books which I am thankful for. However he seems to do it most for attention or when I'm not home so separation anxiety I think is our main problem he's never home for more then three hours alone though (the length of my classes) ANYWAY I have found this website helpful: Stop Dog Chewing - Put A Stop To Your Dog's Chewing Problems Now. |

| I think some of it is the yorkie personality, but is your pup getting plenty of walks and exercise? Sometimes they will shred things when they are bored. |

| We don't really have a problem with our pup ripping apart stuffed toys, but he used to have an issue with ringing the bell constantly, when he didn't actually need to pee/poo. It was definitely a needing attention/exercise issue, particularly since he hadn't had all his shots yet and we were afraid to exercise him outside our tiny little yard. Honestly, the only halfway decent solution we came up with was to totally tire him out. He's almost 6mo old, and 4-5lbs... he gets lots of play time with us during the day (tug of war, fetch, etc.), and a MINIMUM 30-45 min very brisk walk daily, including a few short bursts of getting to run. The more tired he is, the more exercise he's had, and the happier and more content he is, which means the more happy we are. :-) Lauren & Nikko |

It took Maxwell a year plus to chew up a toy. He nibbles on the toys but never ever destroyed any until recently. He's been a good boy. He took me for a walk today...and he was the boss of where we went. I am worn out now since it was a 3+ hour walk. Yes, I believe it is boredom but he does get enough excerise, and today is more than his normal.
