While I believe in supporting the AKC, it is not true, that all AKC breeders are reputable. There are many puppy mills still attached to the AKC, and as long as they are abiding by state laws, there is not much the AKC can do to suspend them. Also, many backyard breeders, and unethical breeders are involved with the AKC, as long as they are following some fairly basic rules, they will not be suspended. So while it is the best registry, it in no way establishes the fact that the breeder is reputable, honest, or knowledge. It is just the first step in checking breeder's credentials.
