| ~~ Nurti-Cal -- How much ~~ I get my baby tomorrow and want to know how much Nutri-Cal do I give him and how many times a day? He is 2 lbs. Is it ok to give it to him everyday? Thanks in advance!

| I never gave it as a daily thing. I think you may end up with problems if you do. I always had kibble out and available to them during the day. My 2 puppies have always been good eaters and would eat regularly and that keeps their blood sugar at a normal level. I would take the Nutrical, kibble & a bottle of water with me when I would go out with them. I'd be sure to offer them kibble to eat and water to drink often. I never stayed out long while they were young, but if they refused to eat much and it appeared they were starting to get wobbly I'd give them a little dab of the Nutrical. Congrats on your baby and remember he really shouldn't be out and around other dogs until 2 weeks after his final shots. So if/when you do go out with him, please be careful to not let him down or have contact with other dogs until all his shots are through. Post some pictures when you can, too!

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | That was Joey's size when I got him, and he never needed Nutri-cal. Nutri-cal is mainly sugar and is useful for treating hypoglycemia; it is not a preventative. In fact, if given as a preventative, it can cause an attack of hypoglycemia, by producing too much insulin. Learn the symptoms of hypoglycemia; and the best method to prevent it is to free feed. Always have food and water available to your dog, and let them eat when they are hungry. If they wait too long they get hypoglycemia, and actually lose their appetite. In this case Nutri-cal, or Kara syrup can be rubbed on the roof of their mouth, and in about 30 minutes their appetite will return. Hypoglycemia Symptoms and Treatment

| I also did not give it on a regular basis. If she didin't eat, I would use it to supplement. Also my vet reccomended giving her a "hit" of the nutrical if she had been playing very vigourously to avoid a quick sugar drop. |
