| ![]() It could be that all the abuse she suffered was inside the house, so the bad memories could last a long time. It must be difficult for you not to get the response you expect after all your love and attention. If this little one is emotionally scarred, then i think you have to back off a bit till she finds some confidence. Go about your day and try to ignore prada as much as possible. Make sure she is warm, fed and safe, but dont try calling her to you just yet. I think dogs need to suss everything out before they learn to trust. Let her see you being happy and carefree, but not putting any pressure on her to come to you. Im sure in time, and with lots of patience you will win her heart. Another good book to read is The Dog Listener by Jan Fennell. She adopted a severely abused jack russell and won him round, and im sure she would inspire you if you have a read! good luck. |

No Longer a Member | ![]() Welcome to YT. I too bought a abused Yorkie. She was made to stay outside. She was chained to a garden flag pole when we went to see her. She had never had a trim or cut. She had fleas and her little hair was past her chin. She couldn't even see. It was 100 degrees outside, she didn't even have food or water. She was thin and sad. I asked the owner, where does she sleep? She said there on the ground. No shade or anything. She had a old collar on that was half eaten into and chained up with a retractable leash. She had the leash wrapped around the flag pole. She didn't even have room to play or potty. When we walked up to see her. She didn't even bark or anything. She was scared to death. I told my husband, let's buy her and if it doesn't work out then we can place her somewhere. I can't stand for this baby to suffer. She is going to die. They told me, she was updated on her shots. Of course, she wasn't. I took her to the vet as soon as I left from there. They said she was very lucky to have us. The first week, she didn't bark or cry or anything. When she had a potty mistake, she hid from us too. She started to come around after a week or so. Now I can't get her to shut up. LOL She is precious to us. We started crate training her and she slept in the crate until about a month and a half ago. Now she sleeps with me. We bought her when she was 6 months old. They bought her to breed with a yorkie poo. They sold that dog too. She was having a hard time potty training so they put her outside. With a little patience, they will get it right. We have had her 9 months now. She is a very spoiled puppy. She gets everything. I hope this helps. |

| ![]() Once again, you guys have been so amazing, and once again tears are brought to my eyes. Today was a lot better. Its so strange how yesterday she was terrified of the house and today when we came home she ran to the door waiting for it to open! She was good at the puppy park today, even when she got aggravated at the boy pups (my friend [princessdiana] told me she's going into heat). I guess we're going to have to stay away from the puppy park for awhile. I took her on a walk around OU a little bit ago to take advantage of the warm weather and get her acclimated to walks instead of playing at the dog park. She did great! She was terrified of the few people still walking around campus, but one was singing with no headphones, so I kind of was too. Other than that she's been good. I even woke up to find she peed on the mat! I feel like she's giving me a treat today for the discouraging day yesterday. Everything you guys have said has made so much sense, and has really helped me. Your posts have let me see what she may be going through much better, and have let us know we aren't alone which has been invaluable. Just thank-you guys for caring so much and for taking the time, once again, to let me know it. I'll be giving Prada lots of love from you, and I'll be putting up pictures of her this weekend. Again, thank-you all so much, and I'm going to try to write each of you personally and thank you for your care. Love you guys! ![]()

| ![]() I think Yorkies (maybe all dogs, don't know, all I've ever had are Yorkies) have a little esp in them. My dogs get excited before I even touch the leashes, they already sense we're going for a walk. Same with going for a car ride to grandma's. If I want to surprise them, I have to work double hard to think of something else, because I swear they can read my mind! Once she gets used to you, and her new home, she will get the idea that you're not out to hurt her. It's probably all so new and overwhelming at first. You're on the right path, just stick with it! I've noticed too that whenever there is a thread similar to this about someone taking in a pup who has been abused or abandoned there are always others wanting to share their stories as well. There are so many unsung heroes on YT that have rescues and rehomes that go unnoticed. Thank you to each of you for doing your part to make the lives better of so many pups. ![]()

Thor's Human Donating Member | ![]() Bless you for taking this poor little pup in! You've gotten a lot of great advice. She is learning to trust you, so my guess is, it will be like any other kind of learning. She'll take steps forward and back, but more forward steps than backwards ones... you'll notice that her timid days become less frequent, and eventually you'll have a sassy little princess on your hands! Best of luck to you. |

| ![]() I am so so happy you rescued her from those horrible people. I literally began to cry while reading your story. The most important thing right now is to show her how much she is loved and adored and always talk to her in a gentle loving voice no matter what. A great idea would be to take her down to Pet Smart or Petco for some minor indoor potty training classes. Just tell the trainer exactly what you told us and that way she knows to pay extra care and attention to her. She needs lots and lots of love and caring. As long as nobody raises their voice in your house she will be fine and adjust quickly. Thank you for rescuing that beautiful soul. Welcome to YT ![]() Last edited by Yorkie8; 02-08-2009 at 11:11 AM. | ![]() So, I finally posted a little album of Prada's first week. I didn't take any at the puppy park because she was all over the place, so most of them are just her sleeping, hahah. Again thank-you guys so much for everything, each time I get online and check there's some new encouragement for us and it means so much. I'm glad I've made some invaluable friends. Please take a look at our little baby, sorry the pictures aren't pro quality, but I got so much pressure I knew I had to upload soon ![]()
