What would you do if your neighbor... left her dog outside in sub-freezing weather? ( It was 16 degrees this morning and 22 degrees this afternoon.) The dog is a Yorkie (or Silkie)/Poodle mix, about 4 years old. I did do something!!!...I want to know what you would have done. |
Knowing me, I would of probably taken the dog in my house (not the best idea) but I would of. |
I would have kidnapped him! I mean dognapped him. He could freeze to death! |
Although I know it isn't the right thing to do I would have taken him and then promptly found a new home where I knew he would be loved. And if the neighbor asked if I had seen him I would have said I think I may have seen him a few days ago running down the street.:animal-pa |
I have to agree with the previous posters. The poor baby. Please say he's ok! |
*take the dog, go knock on the neighbor's door, when he/she answered, pull them out them out of the house and put the dog in the house, locking the door behind me so the person would be locked out* ----no i really wouldnt do that, but it would be tempting! i would call the animal control, or police and reported the person. |
I would take him in , then later call the neighbor and say ," He escaped but don't worry I have him inside where he is warm and safe ." ( maybe she will get the hint) then if she did it again I would call Animal control. |
I'm not sure what I would do but I would have to do something. I couldn't watch an animal suffer like that without helping. |

I don't know what I would've done. |
I would have brought the dog into my house. So......... Tell us! What did you do? Your killing me here! He's nice and warm snuggled on your lap right now, right? :D |
I think it would depend on how long they kept the dog outside. If it was out too long (for my opinion) I would go find out if they forgot about the dog, and if not, then I'd let them know it was just too cold for a dog to be out longer than it takes to do it's business. If they create a bad scene then I'd tell them if it happens again, I'll call animal control and the police. |
How long was it out there? |
Omg, I would've gotten that dog IMMEDIATELY in that weather! And depending upon the history of how this neighbor treated this baby, I would've then decided what was in the best interest of that innocent creature. I guess the lesson is: don't move in next to me! :p Please tell us he is safe? |

:confused:i live in boston and it's cold here. it just snowed yesterday. i leave my dogs out for about 10 minutes or so and then i check on them but they love to be outside in the snow. i know it's cold but they don't want to come in. i would think my neighbors assume im leaving them outside in the cold purposely. i check in on them every 10 minutes but my neighbors doesn't see me do that. if i were you, i would see if they are checking in with them or just leaving them. |
I would have gone over and knocked on their door and talked to them. If they weren't home I would have taken the dog to my house and left them a note that their dog was freezing!!! |
I would have taken care of the dog and then worried about the consequences toward me later.:animal-pa |
I would of call animal control and told them that I was taking the dogs inside and come get the dog |
I wonder how they treat the poor baby on a regular basis. I take my girls out in the cold because they want to go, they use the bathroom, if it's snowing, they may even romp around in it for a minute BUT I am out there the whole time with them. When I see them starting to shiver (or me even), we all go back in. So a few minutes to use the bathroom if that's what they were doing is fine.....any longer than that..No Way!! It's one thing if it's constantly moving about, running, playing, etc. It's another if they have him/her chained up and she's standing still shivering to death.... So what happened next??? |
If there was a no kill shelter I might call them or take the dog myself |
Can a yorkie even survive in those temps for any length of time? From what I've been told, they don't handle cold temps well at all. Poor baby. |

I thought about bringing him into my home...maybe the garage, but I wasn't sure about him being current on his shots, and I wouldn't want Prince to catch anything. The dog had been outside for at least seven hours!!!! (My husband saw him when he left for work, and Prince and I saw him scratching at his front door and screaming!!They always let their dog roam the neighborhood, although we have a lease law. A few neighbors have told me about that dog tearing open their garbage bags and the mess they had to clean up. I called animal control. I had to do something and I felt that anyone who would leave a helpless animal outside probably wouldn't be open to conversation about their dog. (They also have a pit bull, which per our by-laws, is against the rules of our home owner's association). If they ask me about the situation, I'm not sure what I will say. I was furious!!!!!!! |

I called animal control back and was told that they did come, and they did see the dog, still outside. I do not know what happened after that. |
It's hard to imagine he would live that long out there. You did the right thing in calling animal control. I would have done the wrong thing and taken it in the house and got on YT to see who could take this poor little one......that is if I had Crystal at the time. Otherwise I don't know because it would be too hard to hide him. Yorkie Talk would come through. Mean people:mad: really I would have given him something good to eat and a nice warm blanket before I got on YT:p What is wrong with people today? |
OMG 7 hours!! Poor little one... If he is still outside right now, PLEASE KNOCK AT THERE DOOR OR TAKE THE DOG INTO YOUR HOUSE BEFORE IT IS TO LATE!!! YOU CAN KEEP HIM IN ONE ROOM AND KEEP YOUR OWN DOG AWAY. |
