| brought Harley home and Samson isn't happy We bought Harley home, he is just 9 weeks old and as cute as can be but Samson is not happy, Sam is 8 months old. He is jealous, it doesn't matter what Harley has in in mouth he has to take it away, he is growling at him, when the puppy tries to play with him he gets annoyed and runs away. Harley is clueless and just wags his tail and keeps going after Sam and his toys. I honestly feel so bad for Samson. How long does it usually take for dogs to get use to one another?

| I'm nervous about this too, only with a cat. Our Sam has been gone for over a year now, and I don't know how she is going to react to a new puppy. I suppose she will get used to it eventually. Just as my Sam got used to her. Although my Sam was a wussy baby, he would run and hide from her lol! |

No Longer a Member | I don't have tons of yorkie experience, but I got a female and she was 10 weeks younger than my male. They did the same thing for the first few weeks. Actually they continue steal each others toys I think it is their way of claiming ownership. Whenever my male would growl at the female or try to nip at her I would tell him no and lay him on his back and tell him no again. When she did the same thing to him I would do it too. I think I read somewhere on here that it is important to establish that you are the pack leader and neither of them hold that role. It only took a a few weeks (3-4 actually) and they are now the best of buds. |

| I hope Samson gets use to Harley soon. I feel very protective of Samson because he is my first born.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Just give them a little more time to establish their pecking order. When I brought Pixie home she was 13 months old and Cali was 20 months and Maya was 10. Cali was jealous but she is real laid back and let Pixie rule. Then last year this time we brought home 4 month old Roxie and she is a spitfire. They would fight over toys and for attention but they are the best of friends. They fight, play and sleep on top of each other. I think the first week is the hardest and thne they seem to realize the new one is here to stay. It can take longer but usually with within 3 weeks things settle down. Just give Samson extra loving and before you know it they will love each other. It can be upsetting to see our baby upset but in the long run they love having each other.
