Yep, I can't believe some people are posting when it is clear that a vet visit would be more important........I mean I like you'all, but my vet would be where I would be at!!! Hugs-Kay & Jaxon

Some people just don't know what is an emergency and what is not. You say "we have to do what we have to do" but I don't think that you are taking into consideration that if they "do what they have to do" people could lose their homes, or not put food on the table, and you also have to consider that they may very well have small Human children that they must provide for. Yes "times are tough" but most people have other people to take into consideration too. my guess is you've never had to make the descision to make your children go without electricity for a month for somthing that a little canned pumpkin might have cured.

Don't be so quick to judge. I wonder if someone were to search all of your posts if they wouldn't find a question or two??

but alas , I don't expect to get anywhere on this topic as everyone has their own opinion and this is one of those things that will just go on and on. I just hope people can refrain from being ugly about it and not stop others from asking much needed questions

partial payment just like the most companies.

OY this is going to be a hot topic. I can honestly see both sides of the fence. As a parent of both skin and fur children it's our obligation to do the best and most expedient thing to help our children and sometimes that means paying out the a$$ in medical bills. For an issue that is life threatening I think folks should hit the vet vs getting on here and looking for a quick fix. I know that people fear huge bills right now as a lot of people's financial situation are shaky. I do understand everyone's frustration.

Exactly my thoughts.:confused: I remember one taking a video while her yorkie was having a seizure:thumbdown Heck with the educational part of it and take care of that dear little one.

I agree with you to a point. If your dog is having a seizure, bloody diahrea,
vomiting up blood etc this is a dire emergency. GO TO A VET.
We are not vet's therefore we should not be giving information as what
to do to save someone$ It is their responsiblity to care for the pet
that is helpless and can't take care of itself.
If a dog won't eat, poops too much, has stinky breath etc than yes
we can possibly help having had experience in this area.
Yes, times are scary but so is loosing a precious family pet due to
ignorance! There is a difference between an emergency and solving
a problem IMO. I would never want to give someone wrong information
and have their pup die.

but what if its an emergency and no vet is open,lines busy,etc...would it be better to just not post and ask for help and let something happen to their baby?

the word ( emergency) means exactly what it is.. ( an emergency).. !!
find a vet.. emergency mean serious doesnt it????

I agree Archie, there is always two sides to this and most issues. None of us want to make people leary to ask questions and there are times when even the emergency was not possible. A woman started a thread that lived 50 some miles away from the closest vet. I stayed with her that night and like you said, I was scared I could give her the wrong advise. the pup lived but it easily could have gone the other way. We want to help that is what we love doing but if it involves an accident poison or any of what Archie mentioned it is always best to call the vet first. If you don't have the money, they will just have to give you some way of paying.

If there is no emergency clinic in the area, all are open 24/7 I believe,
at least they are in NY, I would continue to contact my vet.
My vet has a service when he's not there. He can be reached at any
time. If your vet does not have such a service I would get a new vet.
What good is a vet if they cannot be reached during an emergency.
If you live out in the country and can't get into town than YT would
be your best bet for the time being until a vet can be reached during
the day. Common sence is all that is required to handle any emergency.
An emergency is that, an emergency. Every minute can count.
For the most part, I don't believe most people, who post these emergencies,
have no vet or clinic they can go to. Looking for a quick fix dosen't help
in emergencies.

ok, i live in a small town, there is one vet clinic(it closes at 5), the next closest is thirty minutes away...it is not so simple to just "find a vet"....personally i think it would be a good idea to try and get some advice by posting a question to help my baby!they made the emergency forum for a reason...now if u have a vet down the road that is open,duh of course go there first but if you dont have that option i would do what i could to try and help my baby meaning post a question!

Alot of people posting will flat out say they dont want to spend money on a vet
