| Teeth? I have heard that Yorkies can have problems with their teeth. So what is the best way to keep them healthy?? I give my chow bones and brush what teeth he has left about once a week... sometimes less but he has great teeth. (he had to have 8 teeth pulled due to severe underbite and it causing sores in and on his mouth) Brushing? Bones? Rawhides? Something else? |

| your doing great except for the rawhides.... dont like em.. not good for them, not digestable. very dangerous with smaller dogs... instead get bully sticks. other than that

| I started brushing lola's teeth since a puppy and she knows she just has to stand there and let me. I do it probably 4 times a week. I didn't do with our other dogs and was sorry I didn't. It led to needing anesthesia to have them done and I think it lead to them having heart disease. I don't like raw hide bones--bad for the digestion. morrislaz |

| I am not using rawhides.... I personally don't like them either - we use the sterilized bones for my chow filled with kong filling or peanut butter and frozen - he loves it. I was just wondering. It sounds like more teeth brushing but that is not a big deal. So far, I haven't really seen a down fall to owning a Yorkie... other then the potty training, but that is dealable. Chows are super easy to potty train so that is going to be the biggest difference I can see. But that is why I am here - to get prepared! LOL |

| I bought a toothbrush set through the vet.. It had flavored toothpaste and a finger brush too. You are correct that Yorkies can have dental issues. However, managing the teeth through brushing will solve a lot of the problems. Start them out early as puppies, so they can get use to it.

| I too, brush Vino's teeth a few times a week. Rawhides are BAD. My vet said never to give rawhides and to brush his teeth often. The far back teeth are most important to clean because that is where they chew. It can be hard to get back there but is crucial. |
