| Needing a little bit of help Hello to all. This is my first post. I have been on here for a week or so just reading up on everything I can learn. Have found soon very helpful information. I have 2 new babies and have run into a couple of problems. I have bought collars for my boys, but they will not wear them. When I put them I make sure they are not to tight (the 2 finger rule) but they act like I have just put hem in the itches collar in the world. Is there something I can do to make this a more pleasurable accessory. I also have the same problem with sweaters, shirts, coats, and anything else on their bodies. They will tag team and help each other out of any clothing. It is a cute site to see them work together, but hurtful to me and my pocket. I want to dress them up and show them off. Also if it is not going to work I can stop wasting my money. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. |

| Be careful of collars for Yorkies. Because Yorkies are prone to problems with collapsing tracheas, many vets recommend the use of harnesses rather than collars. Prince doesn't use anything when he is in the house. When I get his harness, he knows he's going for a walk or car ride. |

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | Hello and welcome to Yorkie Talk! I am assuming that your new babies are still very young. This could be the reason why they are not liking the collars and/or clothes. They are just not used to wearing any. You might want to wait a little longer before dressing them up and/or start out by having them wear them for short periods of time at first, lengthing the time as they get used to having them on. As for collars, mine do not wear them in the house anymore. They all have them with their tags attached, but I don't really use them unless we go somewhere that they need to have identification. All of my yorkies are also micro-chipped for identification. The way they rough-house and play, I fear that if they are wearing them inside, they may sometime get their collar hooked up on something in the house (or even each others teeth/mouths, causing injury or strangulation. And, in case you are not aware, when taking them for walks, a harness should be used rather than collars. If a collar is used and the puppy or dog pulls to much on the leash, it could cause discomfort or injury to the dogs trachea because they are so small. Hope this helps. Would love to see some pics of your little guys!

| What I did for my little guy was put the sweater or collar on him and then immediately play with him and distract him. At first, he'd be distracted by the collar/clothes, but I just kept making the playtime more interesting. By the time we were done playing, he forgot all about the item he was wearing and had gotten used to feeling it. Hope that helps! |

| I don't prefer the collars, because they might get hurt, but you can put the harnesses on them, and give them a treat when you do. You need to use positive reinforcement. Also, you can attach the tags to the harness. Best wishes, and welcome to YT.

| Thank You Thank You, I will try all your suggestions. Also let me apologize. My babies are 3 month old brothers "Mufasa & Scar". I'm still trying to get my avatar working. You can see pic of them through my members page. I have never had puppies before so forgive me if I ask some simple questions. They are just so little (almost 3lbs) and so cute, I don't want to do anything wrong. So, collar - bad, harness - good (only when going out), and playtime/treats when clothes on to distract and reward. Thank You |
