My golden retriever get's snow stuck in her paws and it can be quite painful for her, does she *need* booties - no. She just needs me to better manage the hair between her pads.

| ![]() this is ironic...i dont dress bailee up much, maybe a holiday outfit or on days like today, when its 12 degrees outside...i just put her sweater on and then sat down to my computer lol!its kind of hard to determine who needs it as they mentioned though...i have a 45 pound dog that would freeze to death with out his sweater in the winter! ![]()

I Love My Lil' Punkin's Donating Member | ![]() This is insane! Prosecution!?!? That is absolutely ridiculous! My goodness gracious, I have never once heard of a dog actually overheating from wearing clothing! And please don't go search the internet for a case where this has happened and post it here - lol...I'm SURE it's happened somewhere - but I highly DOUBT it's *that* common ![]() Check this one out - it is a different article about the same thing - pets wearing clothes: Animal welfare experts hot under the collar over dogs in coats - Telegraph This was taken from the article that is linked above: "Some breeds have been bred to have less fur, so in some cases it is quite appropriate for a dog to wear a coat in very cold weather. But if an owner is just doing it for a fashion statement or because they think it is cool, I would question that. If people are worried that their dog might be cold, it is worth getting some advice from their vet to see if it is appropriate or not." OH SURE....every time someone wants to put an article of clothing on their dog, they have to make a trip to the vets office to ask him about it just so they don't get prosecuted for it if the vet doesn't feel that it is "ok" or that it is cold enough outside - PLEASE!!!! ![]() I have been hearing some really absurd things in the news lately - one being a specific tax that they want the farmers to start paying - and it is so absolutely ridiculous that I am even too embarrassed to type it here. ![]() Whoever is thinking up these ridiculous things obviously has nothing better to do with their time. LORD! ![]() ![]()

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | ![]() Jaxon is actually a clothes ho. He shakes in the cold without anything on. He will actually help you & try to put his head into the little shirts!!! I believe these people need to get a life! If your dog or child is cold-put something warm on them! If they are hot-take their shirt off - common sense ![]()

| ![]() Spend 5 minutes at my house and you will certainly NOT think dogs wearing clothes is cruel. Mine actually LIKE it for the most part, I have a few girls that came from outside kennels and they STILL hold up their head to put their little shirts and dresses and sweaters on. It keeps them warm and does not bother them a bit. Now the shoes mine DON'T like, so I don't put them on, but there are some babies that don't mind. With all the homeless and abused animals out there, I think they should redirect their focus. SURE there are people that buy dogs as simply fashion accessories, and no that's not right, BUT to put everyone who dresses their dogs up into that category is just...ignorant. ![]() |

| ![]() That has to be one of the most ludicrous things I have ever read. I dress my girls, for special occasions. And yes, it changes their behavior. They are so happy, because they know, a pretty dress & a bow in their hair, means company is coming, or they are going to Bark & Meow! And believe me, they come running to me right now to get into their snowsuits before Daddy takes them out, because the wind chill is -28 here in NW IN. My Vet thinks they are adorable when they come in for a check up all dresssed up. My girls are not a fashion statement, they are just two Yorkies that are loved and pampered, as every dog should be...... When I take them shopping, they get a lot of attention and that continues their socialization. They do need to focus on something serious, such as finding homes for all the millions of animals in shelters and rescues. |

| ![]() Admittedly there are some people that dress them up simply for fashion with no regard to the dogs well being , but to think everyone that puts clothing on their dog is only doing it for a fashion statement is both wrong and ignorant. Yes I do like buying her cute things , and yes I like dressing her up...but I see nothing wrong with her looking cute while she stays warm. It is good dog parenting to put a sweater, coat , clothes or booties on our babies if they need it. If I was out walking Chloe in the cold with nothing on her I would be neglecting her. If I let her sit in the house and be chilly I would be neglecting her needs. I dress her because I am taking the best care of her I can. With as many things that people have to worry about these days , I for one don't want to have to worry I will be prosecuted for putting a coat on my dog ![]() I think we should take the jackass people who come up with these silly ideas ..strip them naked and put them out in the freezing cold with only their chest hair or bra to keep them warm and see how they feel about clothes then ![]()

| ![]() This *is* really silly. The only way I could see clothes as possibly being detrimental to a dog would be if they were left unattended in them, chewed them up and swallowed pieces of them, or possibly at the dog park. I have seen a larger dog once pick up a small poodle by its sweater at the dog park-- the poodle yelped and the big dog dropped him, but I can see where that might have possibly been a bad situation. Penny has a parka that I put on her when the temperature drops to the teens or lower. I've also got her special-occasion clothes before-- this year she had a Christmas sweater and a special collar with jingle bells on it. I honestly think that she LIKES being dressed up-- she was prancing around like a wild thing in her sweater and jingly collar and seemed happy as could be. I've also bought her outfits in the past for Halloween, and she had a little purple dress that she wore to a fundraiser for a local therapy dog troupe. She was so cute in that that she was put in a newspaper article, and it made me feel pretty good that my cute dog wound up being used as the hook in an article designed to call attention to a good cause. Some animals clearly don't like being dressed up-- my aunt's yorkie hated even having a harness on, and would roll on the floor like a maniac until it was removed-- but I don't see what the harm could be with putting an outfit on a dog that doesn't mind it any, or even seems to enjoy it.

Police dogs and rescue dogs wear boots to protect their feet in search and rescue. I remember collecting money from our agency and shopping for items needed for 9/11 in NYC and booties for the dogs was one of those items. They asked people to send them because the dogs were tearing up their pads! Idiots
