This *is* really silly. The only way I could see clothes as possibly being detrimental to a dog would be if they were left unattended in them, chewed them up and swallowed pieces of them, or possibly at the dog park. I have seen a larger dog once pick up a small poodle by its sweater at the dog park-- the poodle yelped and the big dog dropped him, but I can see where that might have possibly been a bad situation.
Penny has a parka that I put on her when the temperature drops to the teens or lower. I've also got her special-occasion clothes before-- this year she had a Christmas sweater and a special collar with jingle bells on it. I honestly think that she LIKES being dressed up-- she was prancing around like a wild thing in her sweater and jingly collar and seemed happy as could be. I've also bought her outfits in the past for Halloween, and she had a little purple dress that she wore to a fundraiser for a local therapy dog troupe. She was so cute in that that she was put in a newspaper article, and it made me feel pretty good that my cute dog wound up being used as the hook in an article designed to call attention to a good cause.
Some animals clearly don't like being dressed up-- my aunt's yorkie hated even having a harness on, and would roll on the floor like a maniac until it was removed-- but I don't see what the harm could be with putting an outfit on a dog that doesn't mind it any, or even seems to enjoy it.
