| Ollie scare So Ollie gave us a scare last night. He came in from going outside with his siblings and my dad a little after 10pm. Well he was rolling around on the floor and couch like he does when he is drying himself off which I thought he was doing because it was rainy. Well he did this for 10 minutes and then it turned into straight up scratching for like another 10 minutes well I asked my mom to grab him so I could try a Benadryl to stop the itching for now and talk to the vet about it when he goes in for his rabies shot Wednesday. Well she went to pick him up and I could see several feet away something was wrong with his eyes so I got closer and they were very red around them and very swollen. I told my mom how much Benadryl to give him while I went and threw on clothes to rush him to the emergency vet. On the way I felt some bumps popping up on him. They took us back like right when we got there. The tech came in and took his vitals and was gone for maybe 2 minutes when she came back saying the vet wanted to look at him now and not wait until after the other patients there. So she took him to the back. Vet after a few minutes came in and said she was giving him I.V. steroids as well as more Benadryl. He ended up having the swollen eyes, hives, and swollen lips. We have absolutely no idea what caused the allergic reaction but it was very scary. He is to take Benadryl every 6 hours and prednisone once a day for three days. His rabies shot has been pushed to next Wednesday and our vet is going to do a recheck then. This was very scare and I hope a freak accident.

| OMG poor Ollie, poor you, could it be Red ant bits, years back my brothers dog was bitten by Red ants and broke out in bumps where he was bitten, I don't recall if he had swollen eyes. Have you checked the area where Ollie was to see if there is a new weed / weeds growing. How is he doing now.

| Thanks everyone. This definitely rates one of the scariest moments I have had with my pups. It seems to be the boys that do stuff like that to me.

| I am so sorry to hear that Ollie gave you such a scare! Glad that he is responding to treatment, and hope that this is a "one and done" experience. It is amazing what these little guys can get into!

| Wow Taylor, how scary!!! Me, I would breakdown after the incident. I am thrilled you have emergency vets in your area. My new vet here in town wants to be called and take care of his own patients even though we have a emergency vet office in the next town but that's 20-25 minutes away. I hope you figure out what caused this. Hugs to the puppy!
